Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice moves to 2016Hello, everyone! Alright, classy people – today we’ve got some news for you. Some of you might initially see it as a negative, but I’m here to tell you why it’s a good thing. The team at SEGA has decided to delay the release date of Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, which we announced for Nintendo 3DS earlier this year. In order to make sure the game has the time and polish needed, we’re moving it out into 2016. No exact window from us, just yet – it’ll be ready when it’s ready! In the grand scheme of things, while the downside is that you won’t be playing the game this year, the upside is that what you’ll play next year, and what fans will continue to play for years after they pick up the game, will be a stronger, more enjoyable experience. We think that’s important, not just for this one game, but for all future Sonic titles. Questions? Comments? Favorite desserts? We welcome them all in the comments, and we’ll have more news on Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice as we move towards next year! – Aaron

Awesome. Glad to hear a focus in quality is being implemented. I can’t wait to what the future will hold for future Sega products.

“A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.” -Shigeru Miyamoto
Happy to hear that Sanzaru is taking their time in making sure Fire & Ice is on the up and up with the delay! Not gonna lie, I’m actually starting to look forward to see how the next Boom game is gonna turn out. If this keeps up with upcoming games, then there’s momentum to Sonic yet!
Since you’re asking though, Chocolate Xtremes (w/extra stuff, mind!) from Dairy Queen are my all-time favourite dessert! What about yours, Aaron?

This is the first time I’m seeing a delayed Sonic game.
Please delay the game to 2018 if it means to make sure Sonic’s back in business in terms of quality.

This is good! When was the last time a Sonic game was delayed? I can’t think of one.
Glad to hear SEGA meant it when they said they’d start focusing on quality. I applaud this.

There hasn’t been a Year since Sonic’s Debut in 1991 to not have a New Sonic Game I’m pretty sure.

This is wonderful news and I’m very happy to hear that the game will be delayed, to those who may think it’s bad it’s not! I’m hoping that all future Sonic games will be polished when they are released, I’m looking forward to Fire and Ice even more now. So I guess now that it’ll be one of the 25th anniversary games then huh? 😉

Great news! Take as long as you need to make future Sonic titles as high quality as possible.

Out of ALL Sonic games in existence that would greatly benefit from delaying… you choose to delay THIS game?
I almost think that glitches would be the only interesting thing about it… just like with all other Boom games.
Hope that this sentiment of delaying a game to make sure that it actually works properly will be extended to other Sonic titles as well. Even if the 2016 Sonic game needs to come out in 2017.
Yeah, it will suck that the 25th anniversary title would be only the Boom game in this scenario… but at least the real main Sonic game wouldn’t suffer from the lack of quality like some memorable big titles.
And seriously… food jokes?

I don’t like when the game is moved, but I know that is a good idea, I hope that this game will we much better!
And I like that all future Sonic games will take their time, it’s what Sonic needs, a good worked games.
Also I think that this idea have to be with the first Sonic Boom game.
Anyway, I like this idea and I hope all will go great.

Will this delay affect the upcoming 2016 Sonic game, for his 25th anniversary? Because I surely want that game as well that same year. Been waiting long enough for it.
Whatever the answer may be, I’ll be waiting here, patiently, for more updates.
As for favorite desserts: just a regular banana split please

I’m fine with the delay: I’d Rather Sega and Sanzu take the time to make the best product they can, that hit an arbitrary date. Sent the Dev team some daim bar cake to keep moral up.

Oh my… Yes! Just… Just YES! You cant BELIEVE how happy I am to know about this! Finally, Sega is caring about quality of their games, rather than getting them out by Christmas! And if we miss the 25th anniversary because they care about quality, oh well, we’ll get a good freaking game. Look, guys, I’ll be honest, this was going to be my last sonic game if it was bad, I’m glad to see you do truly care about the fan’s opinion.
Thanks, guys!

P.S my favourite dessert is probably salted caramel ice cream.

Does that mean Sonic Boom is all we can expect to celebrate Sonic’s 25th? We’re still waiting for a game from the main series. It’s great that you meant it when you said you’d be fixing up the development cycles, but all I can think is: “Will the main series receive the same treatment?” Boom was never really that good… and no amount of fixing up its technical aspects can fix the rest of it. So… obviously you can’t tell us all about the next real Sonic game, but a little news sure would help to think that waiting through all this will be worth it.

I’d argue that this is not only important for future Sonic titles, but all future Sega games. Delays are usually a good thing, unless they’re done for reasons other than actually improving the game.

Delaying a sonic boom game ? That’s the happiest news I heard from a failed series so Sega please continue the improvement and I hope we shall play in the near future awesome main sonic titles , simply my only request is to make sonic team create Sonic’s 25th anniversary game for PS4 and Xbox one

I don’t know if releasing a Boom series game during the 25th Anniversary is a good idea regardless of quality. Especially if the main Japan Sonic Team releases the anniversary game in the same year. Over saturation is never good for a franchise and we have had two Boom games recently. I would rather see it delayed till after the anniversary myself to give full spotlight to the anniversary celebrations and whatever top secret game Japan are working on.
Even a new collection of past games, perhaps including the remastered classics from Stealth/Taxman and with new extras and previously unreleased re-releases like Knuckles Chaotix and Sega Sonic Arcade in the vein of Sonic Jam would be a better anniversary side release compared to another Boom game. Especially when current systems are for the first time oddly missing the classic games for easy access.
My two cents anyway.

Really?
You choose NOW to actually delay a Sonic The Hedgehog video game and it’s a frigging Boom title?
Where the heck was this attention to detail and care in the entirety of the 3D Sonic video game part of the franchise? So many titles could have been perfected or fixed at least had you guys done this.

Hello, Sonic Boom is popular as a t.v. Show. But I hear that the two previous Sonic Boom titles sold poorly than any past Sonic game. How is this supposed to be any better than the previous two if they sold poorly? But I’m pleased to hear that Sonic Team is taking their time making it as if it’s a masterpiece at work. This would give me time to look at Sonic the hedgehog’s previous titles though.
What if the fans move on to their next phase of media before this game is released? Please don’t disappoint me and cancell this game like Sonic Extreme did back in the nineties. I am a huge fan who plays almost every Sonic game in existence. Sonic is completely different in 2016 so don’t blow it for this special 3ds Sonic Boom game. Favorite dessert:Dark chocolate Reese’s peanut butter cups.

Wow, this is great news! I’ve been a fan of the TV show, but the first game was horrible on Wii U. The 3DS game was playable, but barely… A huge drop in quality compared to Sonic Rush, Rush Adventure, and Sonic Colors before it. Thank you for taking the fans seriously. I actually would hope to keep this “Boom” series limited to the 3DS, or hope this fire and ice game is the last entry in the series. We want our mainline sonic back! Start with a game similar to Sonic Generations, with the flair of Lost World (not its gameplay)

This is excellent news! Not just for this game, but for future titles as well. Games need time to be polished and completed, and rushing a game to meet a deadline is a bad move. Fans don’t demand Sonic games to be released sooner, they demand them to be released with better quality.

YES YES YES!!! I’m so glad to hear that this will be the new policy! After Sonic ’06 and Rise of Lyric, it’s good to see that Sega has finally realized that getting a title out before Christmas is not so incredibly important that it should override all forms of sanity.

I applaud this move and look forward to the final product! There were some really good ideas in Shattered Crystal. My hope is Fire & Ice builds on what worked with the previous 3DS game while delivering a fun experience that is not dependent on knowing anything about Sonic Boom. Let the gameplay shine!

That’s a lie and a half.
We already know Sanzaru has stripped the title of development staff to work on things they think are actually WORTH their time, primarily some VA titles from what’s been revealed. Next to nobody is working on the game right now, it’s essentially Sonic 06 in handheld game form development wise now.
Don’t kid yourself SEGA/Aaron and just tell the truth.

This still will not make up for the failure of the series I for one would like the original design of the characters or why not branch off into something bigger like a continuation from sonic generations( probably the last good sonic game) Sega has a lot of characters they could revive and use again also what’s going on with the merchandise jazz wares were the best in making sonic figures and for most of them to be scrapt is very disappointing look Sega u guys have slot of potential just listen to the fans

Sega I want to help you by giving you a few tips that you can use to make the new sonic boom game just as amazing as your previously best seller sonic games ever. First is try to add the old gameplay gimmicks from your best sonic games that people really enjoyed, then for the storyline try to keep it simple like Mario does, what I mean by that is Sonic and friends vs Dr.Eggman. That should make the people love the new sonic boom game. Remember “You got this Sega try to beat that plumber Mario.”
