Guardian Heroes: Undead Hero

Each day, we’re getting closer to the release of Guardian Heroes on XBLA! Today, we’re taking a look at the Undead Hero.

Undead Hero

Also known as the Undead warrior, the Golden Warrior, and Goldie, this imposing skeletal warrior is an undead knight called back from the grave by the magical sword that he once wielded. Inadvertently revived by the game’s protagonists when they bring his sword to his burial place, he remains by their side throughout the course of the game and follows their commands.

While the exact origins of the sword are never clearly disclosed, it is suggested that it was given its power by a curse enacted by the previous king as he died, or that it was created by the enigmatic Celestial beings, the Sky Spirits.

Nevertheless, it is a powerful artifact, and the catalyst for much of the game’s story, as well as the major objective of the sorcerer Kanon during the game’s first half.

Undead Hero

The Undead Warrior is very powerful, but mindlessly aggressive. He attacks one of the game’s heroes, Serena, almost immediately after his revival, and left to his own devices will mow down the helpless, the elderly, the young, and just about anything else he can get his hands on. He even goes on to assault God in several of the game’s endings.

Undead Hero

The Undead Warrior may have been created for the game’s story mode to ease the burden of fighting so many enemies at once. While most beat-em-ups see the player outnumbered in most encounters, the number of enemies in Guardian Heroes tends to be particularly high, and given that even the weakest of enemies can run, block, double-jump air guard and so on, additional assistance might be required.
And assistance could likely come in no better form than the Undead Hero, whose wide-swings, frenzied slashes and screen filling explosion are enough to handle most of the game’s opposition handily.

Undead Hero

As another advantage, albeit a subtle one, he has some very unique hit-boxes, which mean that only his head, waist and feet are viable targets.

According to Han, he weighs three-hundred pounds, which is quite an accomplishment for a skeleton.

Get ready, because Guardian Heroes is hitting XBLA on October 12th!

Guardian Heroes: Randy

Guardian Heroes - Randy

Guardian Heroes is coming to XBLA on October 12th, and to get you ready, we’re sharing character bios and exclusive character art until the big day!

Today’s character is Randy!  (Missed previous bios? Catch up here.)

Guardian Heroes - Randy

Randy is an apprentice sorceror who joined the Guardian Heroes when he decided that travelling would give him a better opportunity to hone his abilities. He is usually accompanied by the rabbit Nando, who is apparently also a sorceror, and has the ability to turn into a homing fireball. He is said to be quite shy, and has a mild infatuation with Serena.

Guardian Heroes - Randy

Randy has the widest range of spells amongst the Guardian Heroes, but is also rather skilled with his staff. He can use it to rack up not inconsiderable combos, a particular advantage as this is how Magic Points are regenerated in Guardian Heroes.

Randy’s magic spells include pools of Ice, Tornadoes, giant flaming lasers and a circle of flaming pillars. While these spells start quite small, raising his Intelligence stat can increase them to a size that fills most of the screen.

Guardian Heroes - Randy

A unique trait of the boy wizard is that he has a helper character, Nando. Any input that the player makes for Randy on the joypad will also be applied to the rabbit, who can be used to bail Randy out of trouble, lengthen combos, or simply to attack enemies.

In Advance Guardian Heroes, it is revealed that Randy fled when things turned badly for he and his allies. He appears to have given over control of his body to Nando.

Guardian Heroes: Nicole

Nicole

Guardian Heroes is coming to XBLA on October 12th, and to get you ready, we’re sharing character bios and exclusive character art until the big day!

This week, as you may have guessed already, we’re focusing on Nicole. (Last week, we focused on Ginjirou.)

Nicole

A young cleric and hero in Treasure’s Guardian Heroes game. Whether by accident or design, probably the most formidable playable character in story mode.
Nicole comes across as a fairly ditzy, lighthearted and fun-loving character, if somewhat grumpy at times. She appears to be quite clumsy too, given that she falls over at random, and that the effects of her spells are somewhat randomized.

Nicole

While players first trying out Nicole might be forgiven for thinking that she mostly just functions as a support character, given her healing magic, barrier and lack of any obviously powerful attacks, she is the best character in story mode when it comes to both attacking and defense. Her most lethal tactic is to sandwich an enemy between the edge of the screen and her barrier move, as neither the target nor Nicole will be knocked out of range of one another. This technique is probably the most damaging in the game.

Nicole

In addition to this, Nicole is the only playable character in Story Mode who can restore her own health, a major advantage given that unlike most beat-em-ups, Guardian Heroes doesn’t include health-restoring power ups.

Nicole

Guardian Heroes: Ginjirou

Guardian Heroes - Ginjirou

We know that so many of you are excited for the upcoming release of Guardian Heroes on XBLA. To help tide you over, we’re going to be revealing concept art, sketches, and more each week until the October 12th release date.

As you may have already guessed, we’re kicking off with Ginjirou, the protagonist from Guardian Heroes.

Giant Bomb has some great character bios for all the Guardian Heroes, so you can brush up if you need a refresher. Here’s their bio for Gijirou:

Ninja protagonist from Guardian Heroes. Has a wide arsenal of moves and an affinity for lightning magic.

Ginjirou is said to have joined the Guardian Heroes in the hope of finding a famous sword known as Muramasa, a sword that is believed to be so powerful that it acquired a soul. He comes across as the most reserved and formal of the game’s main characters, as well as the oldest.

Ginjirou is one of the five characters who can be played as in the game’s story mode, as well as one of the forty-five or so who can be controlled in versus mode.

Guardian Heroes - Ginjirou

Of the Guardian Heroes, he is the most mobile as he has many attacks that launch him across the screen, and can usually go further in a single movement than any of his comrades. This makes the ninja well suited to hit and run tactics, a handy skill when facing multiple enemies.

Ginjirou is also fairly adept at magic, specializing in the use of electricity. His most damaging spell usually is his thunder palm, which can be strung together several times for a large combo, and tends to do especially brutal damage to large enemies and robots.

Guardian Heroes - Ginjirou

Guardian Heroes will be out on October 12th for XBLA.
