Spend Your Valentine’s Day Hunting for Creatures with House of the Dead 3

House of the Dead 3

The House of the Dead 3 hits PSN today. This HD release of the classic horror arcade shooter, fully updated with trophies and PlayStation Move support, is available exclusively on the PlayStation Store today for $6.99.

“We know not everyone has easy access to an arcade with a House of the Dead cabinet, so we wanted to give players around the world the chance to have that same experience in their living rooms,” said Haruki Satomi, Senior Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA of America. “We hope everyone enjoys The House of the Dead 3’s classic gameplay and new features, and look forward to introducing console owners to the fourth, previously arcade-only, installment later this spring.”

The House of the Dead 3 added a number of key features to the series’ creature-shooting roots, including interactive “rescue events” and a ranking and grading system that tracks each agent’s shot accuracy. This new console version of The House of the Dead 3 can be played using a PlayStation Move controller or a standard PlayStation controller, and as a special bonus SEGA has also included a unique reward for players to earn in-game: their very own virtual The House of the Dead 3 arcade cabinet for their PlayStation Home space!

But poetry can work too,

Subdue the undead

Ode to the Creatures of The House of the Dead

House of the Dead 3

Last week we announced that The House of the Dead 3 and 4 are coming to PlayStation 3. This week, we’re giving our fans in the USA, Canada and UK a chance to win a PlayStationMove, PlayStationMove Sharp Shooter and copies of The House of the Dead 3! Read on to learn how to enter our “Ode to the Creatures of the House of the Dead” contest!

Entering is simple – we want to hear why you love the creatures from The House of the Dead in everyone’s favorite form of poetry: the haiku.

Today’s Poetry Lesson

For those of you unaware what a haiku is/the proper structure of a haiku, a haiku is comprised of three lines that don’t need to rhyme. The first and last lines should have five syllables, and the middle line should have seven. Please find a few examples below:

Hiding in shadows
Wanting to eat brains and arms
You can’t hide from me

Creatures are screaming
Your grunts help me to find you
In House of the Dead

Blood thirsty creatures
I’ll make you suffer like G
Please stop chasing me

We’ll be judging your entries on creativity and how well you capture the essence of the creatures. And trust me, I know a good haiku when I see one, so I’m going to need you to pull out all the stops on your entries. For complete rules and regulations, please see below!

Acceptance of a prize constitutes permission for Sponsor to use winner’s name and likeness for advertising and promotional purposes as Sponsor so determines without notice or further compensation, except where prohibited by law. Prize recipient shall not be permitted to (a) replace his/her designated prize with another prize or item, (b) transfer or assign his/her designated prize to another person, or (c) substitute any prize or prize component for cash. Further, no Entrant will be eligible to receive a prize unless Sponsor determines, in its sole and absolute discretion, that such Entrant’s Haiku Submission has been or can be sufficiently cleared for legal purposes and such Entrant has complied with the terms of these Official Rules.

Past experience has shown a promotion such as this one may generate similar submissions which closely resemble concepts and ideas developed by the Promotion Entities whether before, during or after the Promotion. Entrants may see a presentation that seemingly incorporates an idea or concept or includes materials similar to that contained in their entry (e.g., Haiku Submission). Any similarity may be purely coincidental and is always unavoidable in light of the volume of ideas that the Promotion Entities routinely consider in the course of their content development. The rights granted under this paragraph shall extend to Sponsor and its indirect and direct parent companies and their respective affiliated companies with respect to all entries and all other submitted materials related to the Promotion, including those submitted by non-winners and winners.

By submitting a Haiku Submission, you grant to Sponsor, its parent and affiliated companies the right, except where prohibited by law, to use your name, likeness, picture, address (city and state), voice, biographical information, the Haiku Submission in your entry and written or oral statements, for advertising and promotional purposes in promoting or publicizing Sponsor, its products or services, without compensation unless required by law. You shall have no right of approval, no claim to compensation, and no claim (including, without limitation, claims based on invasion of privacy, defamation, or right of publicity) arising out of any use, blurring, alteration, or use in composite form of your name, picture, likeness, address (city and state), e‑mail address, biographical information, or entry. The House of the Dead 3 and 4 Coming to PlayStation Network

I’m going to just jump right into this one: The House of the Dead 3 is coming to PlayStation Network on February 7th, to be followed by The House of the Dead 4 in Spring 2012. Both titles have been updated with HD graphics, trophies, and complete PlayStationMove support to give you a full arcade HOTD experience in your living room. Boom. Yes. Awesome.

Originally released in 2002, The House of the Dead 3 introduced a number of new elements to the series, including “rescue events,” a shot ranking and grading system that challenges players to shoot both quickly and accurately, and a Boss “cancel” bar that players must fill to fend off devastating attacks.

I don’t think you need me to tell you that this will be the first time you’ll be able to play HOTD 4 in the comfort of your own home (far less embarrassing when you accidentally scream when a creature jumps out of nowhere, not that I’ve ever done that). We’ll have more HOTD 4 goodies as we get closer to release time, but for now, please work on honing your creature-killing skills in HOTD 3.
