Play Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed and Meet Steve Lycett at Summer of Sonic & Sonic Boom 2012

Sonic Boom 2012

The summer Sonic events, Summer of Sonic and Sonic Boom 2012, are just 2 months away! There’s lots of great stuff planned for all the Sonic fans who will be hanging out with us in Brighton, UK and San Diego, USA. Last year, you got to play Sonic Generations for the first time and this year is no different – attendees will be the first fans to get some hands-on time with Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, which we just announced last week.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

We’re also very excited to announce that Steve Lycett from SUMO Digital (known as S0L in many Sonic forums, including our own SEGA forums), Executive Producer on Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, will be appearing at both Summer of Sonic and Sonic Boom 2012! Many Sonic fans have interacted with him online for a while, and this will be your chance to see him in person.

Crush 40 will be playing live at both events, and special guests Jean Paul and Alex Makhlouf from Cash Cash will also playing live at Sonic Boom. Get ready to rock out to your favorite Sonic song with your fellow fans!

Sonic Boom

We’ve got lots more surprises in store for this year’s Sonic events… and we’re not ready to let them all out of the bag just yet. Stay tuned for more announcements in the coming months!

Sonic Boom Tickets On Sale March 19th

Sonic Boom 2012

Last month, on Hedgehog Day, we announced that Sonic Boom would be held on Friday, July 13, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 10:00 PM at the House of Blues in San Diego, CA (during San Diego Comic Con). Today, we’re pleased to announce that tickets for Sonic Boom will go on sale this coming Monday, March 19th at 10:00 AM Pacific Time exclusively through TicketMaster.

We don’t want to give away all the surprises we have in store for you at Sonic Boom, but I’ll let you in on one — Crush 40, along with special guests Jean Paul and Alex Makhlouf from Cash Cash, will be playing live! Rock out to your favorite Sonic songs along with an audience full of other fans. Of course that’s just one exciting part of Sonic Boom… but trust me, it’s going to be a night you don’t want to miss.

Why are tickets going on sale so early?

We know that many of you will be traveling to San Diego to attend this event, and will therefore need a hotel room. During Comic Con, most hotel rooms are reserved through the convention’s hotel room lottery, which is opening on March 29, 2012. We’re selling tickets early so you can know for sure you have a ticket for Sonic Boom before you book your hotel room.

What’s Different This Year?

We’re doing things a bit differently this year, and we wanted to take a few moments to explain why, and what you need to know about the tickets for this year’s Sonic Boom.

Last year, we distributed tickets for free. As a result of this, we saw people grabbing up large numbers of tickets simply because they could, with no intention to use them. This made our planning more difficult as we couldn’t get an accurate headcount as a result, and many fans that wanted to come felt that they could not, because they didn’t have a ticket.

This year, our tickets are being sold through TicketMaster, which is the ticket vendor for the House of Blues. Second, we are charging a small fee per ticket this year — $15 for the ticket and a $5 TicketMaster fee, for a total of $20 per ticket. However, we’re also providing you with more than we did last year — there will be free food at the event (instead of for purchase, like last year), and each ticket holder will get 2 drink tickets that you can redeem for a drink at the bar. (You must be 21 or older with proper ID to redeem your tickets for alcohol.) It is our hope that this system results in more accurate records for us, more available tickets for fans, and a great Sonic-filled evening for everyone.

Last year, we had a separate line for people who wanted to get into Sonic Boom but didn’t have tickets. We did this because of the problem we mentioned before — we didn’t have an accurate headcount, and we wanted to let in as many people as we could. This year, we will NOT have a line for people without tickets. You must have a purchased ticket through TicketMaster to enter Sonic Boom. Although the event is held during San Diego Comic Con, you do not need a Comic Con badge to get into Sonic Boom.

Finally, although the event is being held during San Diego Comic Con this year, you DO NOT need a Comic Con badge to enter Sonic Boom. As long as you’ve got your purchased TicketMaster ticket and your ID, you’re set!

TL;DR Version

  • Sonic Boom 2012 – Friday, July 13, 2012 from 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM (during San Diego Comic Con)
  • House of Blues – San Diego, CA
  • Tickets go on sale Monday, March 19th, 2012 at 10:00 AM Pacific Time for $20 each ($15 + $5 TicketMaster fee)
  • Open to all ages!
  • You must have a ticket to enter, but you do not need a Comic Con badge
  • Food and 2 drinks provided (you must be 21 or older with proper ID to drink alcohol)
  • Crush 40 with special guests John Paul and Alex Makhlouf from Cash Cash will be playing!

We can’t wait to see all of you in San Diego!

Happy Hedgehog Day 2012

hedgehog_day

On February 2nd in 1994, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was released in the US, and it was dubbed “Hedgehog Day”. In the past few years, we’ve revived this Sonic holiday as a day for fan celebration, and some news and goodies for Sonic fans.

This year is no exception. We’ve got an extra special dose of concept art from Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II, and a couple “save the date” announcements for this summer. Although we’re not ready to talk about all of our plans for this year, we’ve got some great stuff in the works. I think it’s going to be a great year to be a Sonic fan.

From all of us at SEGA to all of you — Happy Hedgehog Day!

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II – Egg Serpentleaf

We normally do concept art on Fridays, but we’ve got a special extra for you on Hedgehog Day!

Save the Dates for Summer of Sonic and Sonic Boom 2012!

Fans of Sonic on both sides of the pond will have a chance to gather this summer, as Summer of Sonic returns to the UK and Sonic Boom returns to the US!

We’ll have plenty more details in the coming months about both fan gatherings, but we’re so excited about seeing all of you this summer that we just had to give you a special sneak peek at what we’re planning.

Summer of Sonic

Summer of Sonic will be held in the London area on Saturday, July 7th. This will be the fifth anniversary of Summer of Sonic – and we’re determined to make it the biggest and best show yet! SoS is an all-day event that celebrates all aspects of the Sonic franchise. ‘Zoned’ areas offer a range of different activities – budding artists can sit down at the fan art tables and compete in competitions, speed runners can challenge each other at the retro gaming pods, and the latest Sonic titles are available for fans to try before they’re even released.

Sonic Boom 2012

Sonic Boom will be held in San Diego, CA on Friday, July 13th (during San Diego Comic Con) at the House of Blues. We’ll have more information about ticketing in the future, but you will not be required to have a Comic Con badge to attend Sonic Boom. Hotels in the San Diego area fill up quickly for Comic Con, so if you will need a hotel room, we suggest that you book early and/or consult the San Diego Comic Con hotel page.

At the first Sonic Boom last year, fans had a chance to play Sonic Generations, get some great swag, enjoy a great musical performance from Crush40, and more. We don’t want to give too much away about what’s in the works for this year (at least, not right now!), but we’re aiming to make it a great time for Sonic fans of all ages. We hope you’ll come hang out with us, Sonic, and a bunch of Sonic fans!
