There have been many beloved songs in the last 20 years of Sonic Games. Just like Sonic Generations took some of the most beloved levels and remade them in both Classic and Modern formats, Jun Senoue (Crush40, and Musical Director for Sonic), composers Tomoya Ohtani and Kenichi Tokoi, and Alex Makhlouf (Cash Cash) did the same with the music.

You probably have a lot of questions about what it’s like to make music for Sonic, and about the specific tracks in Generations… and here’s your chance to ask them! Since we announced Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II in December, and even as we reveal concept art for the game, fans have been  champing at the bit for actual game images and gameplay. Just like that famous candy, I’ve got some for you now, and the other later.

For now… screens!

For later… we’ll be debuting our first gameplay trailer on Gamespot in one week, on February 23rd at 9am US Pacific time. There’s great stuff coming, so stay tuned!

By now, you’ve probably played (and beaten!) Sonic Generations a few times, but what you may not know is that there’s a hidden Statue Room, and codes to unlock many different statues. Some of these codes have been posted around the internet, but it’s time to make it official — here’s how to get to the Statue Room and some of the statues within.

To get to the Statue Room, go to the Collector’s Room (to the left of Green Hill Zone) and hold the back/select button for 5 seconds. The floor will drop out, landing  you in the Statue Room! Once you’re in, try these codes:

On February 2nd in 1994, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was released in the US, and it was dubbed “Hedgehog Day”. In the past few years, we’ve revived this Sonic holiday as a day for fan celebration, and some news and goodies for Sonic fans.

This year is no exception. We’ve got an extra special dose of concept art from Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II, and a couple “save the date” announcements for this summer. Although we’re not ready to talk about all of our plans for this year, we’ve got some great stuff in the works. I think it’s going to be a great year to be a Sonic fan.

We normally do concept art on Fridays, but we’ve got a special extra for you on Hedgehog Day!

Save the Dates for Summer of Sonic and Sonic Boom 2012!

Fans of Sonic on both sides of the pond will have a chance to gather this summer, as Summer of Sonic returns to the UK and Sonic Boom returns to the US!

We’ll have plenty more details in the coming months about both fan gatherings, but we’re so excited about seeing all of you this summer that we just had to give you a special sneak peek at what we’re planning.

Summer of Sonic will be held in the London area on Saturday, July 7^th. This will be the fifth anniversary of Summer of Sonic – and we’re determined to make it the biggest and best show yet! SoS is an all-day event that celebrates all aspects of the Sonic franchise. ‘Zoned’ areas offer a range of different activities – budding artists can sit down at the fan art tables and compete in competitions, speed runners can challenge each other at the retro gaming pods, and the latest Sonic titles are available for fans to try before they’re even released.

Sonic Boom will be held in San Diego, CA on Friday, July 13^th (during San Diego Comic Con) at the House of Blues. We’ll have more information about ticketing in the future, but you will not be required to have a Comic Con badge to attend Sonic Boom. Hotels in the San Diego area fill up quickly for Comic Con, so if you will need a hotel room, we suggest that you book early and/or consult the San Diego Comic Con hotel page.

At the first Sonic Boom last year, fans had a chance to play Sonic Generations, get some great swag, enjoy a great musical performance from Crush40, and more. We don’t want to give too much away about what’s in the works for this year (at least, not right now!), but we’re aiming to make it a great time for Sonic fans of all ages. We hope you’ll come hang out with us, Sonic, and a bunch of Sonic fans!

It’s hard to believe that it was just 3 weeks ago that we announced Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II with a teaser trailer and the game’s Brand Manager, Ken Balough, sporting a ridiculous Tails beard. (Fun fact: He broke 2 razors shaving that off.)

Sonic CD

We promised you it was on the way, and here it is!

Bringing back the 1993 classic, Sonic CD brought the blue guy to the Sega CD/Mega Drive back in 1993. A beloved and celebrated game playing with all the elements that helped make the original two Sonic games so much fun, Sonic CD wasn’t just a CD version of the original game, but a whole new story set to great levels (with terrific music, naturally). There isn’t much more to say — check out this great game for yourself!

Sonic on Spiral Knights!

To be more accurate, it’s Tails and Metal Sonic in Spiral Knights … Available for a limited time!

Spiral Knights is a Three Rings developed / SEGA published free-to-play adventure … while I could say much, much more about the game, let’s cut to the chase — These items and offer are currently available only until February 1st, so act soon!

Here’s what you can get and how you can get it:

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I and Sonic Generations DLC

Today truly is a blue day: In addition to the above, the long-in-the-making sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I is being added to the library of Sonic volumes available on PC digital download!

Finally, joining it will be a brand new Sonic Generations DLC, Casino Night Zone!

Based on the legendary (and legendarily addictive) Casino Night Zone of Sonic 2, this DLC is now available for Sonic Generations on PC digital download. We sincerely hope you enjoy the chance to revisit this colorful and mesmerizing level!

We’ve got a new year’s resolution that’s sure to please gamers worldwide: the iconic blue hedgehog will be making his 2D return in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II in 2012. Following the award-winning success of Episode I, which took the world by storm in 2010, Sonic will continue his journey through the epic Sonic 4 saga on XBLA, PSN, and mobile platforms including the App Store, Android Market and Xbox LIVE on Windows Phone 7.

Fans have been eagerly anticipating the next episode in Sonic’s new side-scrolling adventure, and SEGA has been listening closely to their feedback. This Sonic figure was hand-made by Cara, (aka @bluesonikku) who has sent us her adorable creations for Sonic’s birthday the past 2 years. Unfortunately, both birthday scenes have been broken — the first by us (someone accidentally knocked it over), and the second by the postal service (it arrived in a billion pieces).

But luckily, she sent us a winter scene which arrived and remains intact. We took photos of it in our Green Hill Zone cube (yes, we still have it), and many people have been by to admire it. Personally, my favorite part are the two tiny hats keeping Sonic’s ears warm. Thanks again, Cara — we always enjoy seeing your work.

Recently we ran a Sonic CD fanart contest across North America, Europe, and Mexico and today we’re really excited to show the entire SEGA community the winners! We received over 500 images across all three territories, which is an incredible amount of art and really shows how much Sonic CD has touched fans everywhere. Each territory had a total of FIFTY winners, FIVE of which received a GRAND PRIZE. Everyone, please join me in congratulating our winners!

Now, as we received a total of 138 winners across the three territories, this makes for a blog of epic length. So we’ve gone ahead and posted all the winning images to our Flickr page and will be posting the winning entries in batches leading into the holidays.
