Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Takes Gold In Leipzig
This year - the fifth time the awards have been held - saw gongs distributed among winners chosen from a roster of 85 nominees in nine categories, for both hardware and software. One of those categories was ‘Best in GC’ for a Wii game and we’re flattered to giggles to tell you Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games took the top spot on the podium. The landmark game, which sees Sonic and Mario teaming up for the first ever time, beat off some very stiff competition in the form of Super Mario Galaxy and Wii Fitness to cross the line first. Here’s what the judges had to say: “Finally consumers will be able to see who’s faster and who can jump higher - Mario or Sonic? A great casual gaming experience for all kinds of gamers.” Go Mario and Sonic! Keep an eye on the GC awards page for details on all the awards. Check out the official Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games website here.

I actually attended the GC in Leipzig. And due to the attitudes of the Sega staff at the event it took me nearly 4 hours to calm my Fiance’ down and continue to have fun. Why? 4 Sega representatives playing Mario & Sonic at the olympics. When approached by my partner with the normal question!? “Can I have a go?”. to which they replied “No only we are allowed to play”. Now I can imagine if it was just to be on a video screen etc. , that I could accept. But these so called ‘Sega reps’ were in an open booth and playing the games right in front of you. Anyone could go right up to them and the consoles!!! They were stood right next to you playing the games non stop all day. It would have taken 2 minutes to keep her happy all day long!. Instead the trip to the sega booth upset her all day and all night long. Sega, you can stuff your games if this is how you treat your customers.

Hi. I am a member of the Games Convention’s ‘Best of GC’ jury and would like to clarify something here. Obviously, Super Mario Galaxy would have won, but could not be nominated, since Nintendo did not have the game playable on the showfloor. Those are the rules, that’s why Mario had to be withdrawn. Same goes for MP3.

Don’t think we’ve all forgot about Shenmue III so easily, you do realise that there are probably more people who want this game more then ever since it’s been us fans giving it hype and credibilty.
Why don’t Sega/Sammy listen to the fans, they’ve treated Yu Suzuki like garbagre since the merger and we’ve only had half-decent Sonic games and Charlottes Web given to us from Sega.
Fair play Virtua Fighter 5 is great and they’re bringing back classics like NiGHTS and Golden Axe but where is Shenmue III? This is a game that will win back so many fans for Sega and although some might not want to here it, in recent years Sega have sucked when it comes to making good games.
