Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Takes Gold In Leipzig

As Europe’s largest videogames event moves towards its closing hours, one of the last things to announce are the results of the show’s official awards.

This year - the fifth time the awards have been held - saw gongs distributed among winners chosen from a roster of 85 nominees in nine categories, for both hardware and software.

One of those categories was ‘Best in GC’ for a Wii game and we’re flattered to giggles to tell you Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games took the top spot on the podium.

The landmark game, which sees Sonic and Mario teaming up for the first ever time, beat off some very stiff competition in the form of Super Mario Galaxy and Wii Fitness to cross the line first.

Here’s what the judges had to say: “Finally consumers will be able to see who’s faster and who can jump higher - Mario or Sonic? A great casual gaming experience for all kinds of gamers.”

Go Mario and Sonic!

Keep an eye on the GC awards page for details on all the awards.

Space Siege At E3

Space Siege At E3

One of the titles to be announced at E3 was Space Siege, an RPG of mankind-saving proportions. Not too much is known yet about the hero of Space Siege, Seth Walker…

As a combat engineer you are thrown into the defence of humanity, quite a burden in anyone’s book really.

Anyway, here’s a piece of artwork of our hero of the hour. Make up your own minds about whether he’s ready for the challenge…

May Newsletter Competition Winners Announced

May Newsletter Competition Winners Announced

Every month in our SEGA Europe newsletter we run a competition, and last month we offered members the chance to win a game pack worth over 100 quid for five lucky readers.

It was easy to enter the draw, too. All you had to do was tell us which city the SEGA headquarters are in. The answer of course was Tokyo!

This morning we picked out the five lucky winners from a competition bag of fortune and if your name is listed below, you are one of them:

James Pitt
Evgenios Anastasiadis
Manoj Maniar
Barrie Osgood
Denise Small

The lovely shiny pic taken in our glamorous community office shows you just how good the game pack was, with Virtua Tennis 3, Football Manager 2007, Full Auto 2, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Charlotte’s Web and SEGA Mega Drive Collection all included, plus a VT3 T-shirt just for good measure.

You can only enter our monthly competition if you receive our newsletter, so why not sign up now - just visit sega-europe.com and click Register at the top-right of the homepage.

New SEGA Fan Gallery Goes Live

New SEGA Fan Gallery Goes Live

It would appear lots of people have BIG collections of SEGA stuff. And quite a lot of people seem to be sending us pictures of them.

And when I say quite a lot, what I mean is loads. Literally hundreds of photos of folks’ games, merchandise, consoles, toys and - on occasion - even themselves.

So we figured they all deserved to be presented in a place where the world could marvel at them. A place people could visit via the blog - a place of significance and glory! Yes, people, we’re talking about SEGA’s Flickr account.

Check out all the pictures we’ve uploaded so far here. But don’t let it end there. Get your own stockpile of SEGA stuff into the gallery and claim a slice of immortality (and our monthly bandwidth allowance) now!

Send pictures of your prized SEGA collections - or anything else that proves your fandom - to blogs@sega-europe.com.

We had some problems, but we

We had some problems, but we’re back on the blog

However, our wizard developer Chris did a lot of head-scratching and finally solved the problem. Apparently the official problem we had was ‘Far too complicated for your technically-challenged mind to understand Dave.’

We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused, and hope you enjoy the flood of blogs that we’ll have for you in the coming weeks.
