Video Games Live

Video Games Live Video Games Live hits the UK on 25th November at the Hammersmith Apollo, London! Exciting news. It’s a stunning event and should be deemed totally unmissable for anyone into videogames. What’s more, the event boasts a slew of musical hits from SEGA games, including a huge medley of classic Sonic The Hedgehog tunes.

Check out the trailer (see if you can spot Sonic creator Yuji Naka signing autographs).

What makes it even better is that it’s all taking place just around the corner from SEGA Europe’s London HQ. That means we might get to go!

Thanks to Lidice “Animegirl” Garcia Mendoza from the USA, not just for pointing out the UK date on the Video Games Live tour, but also for letting us in on her own experience of the event at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles in September.

Take it away, Lidice!

It’s been a great year in the world of videogames soundtracks! As you might have heard, Video Games Live celebrates the history of videogames, bringing a massive orchestra together with choirs, light and laser shows, live action and huge video screens, to play through the sounds that are oh-so-familiar to us. Check out the event’s site at www.videogameslive.com.

“The first concert was held at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles last year and it returned to play to another 11,000+ people in September 2006. This time I was there.

“The orchestra was pretty neat; memories of old-school games played in my childhood were brought right back. They played SEGA songs such as OutRun’s “Magical Sound Shower” and Sonic themes like Green Hill Zone, Labyrinth Zone, Marble Zone… the list goes on.

Costume Contest “They also held a costume contest and a game competition. I got the chance to meet Spencer Nilsen, the composer for the American Sonic CD soundtrack. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a picture of Spencer and myself; the media were too busy hogging him! So instead… I got his autograph! There were other composers there, as well as designers and even voice actors.

“Even though I live in the US, I do help my friends who live in the UK keep up to date with the latest on Sonic (in particular with Jun’s fansite) and yes… I do know Adam “T-Bird” Tuff - he’s a true dedicated Sonic fan, as I am! So here’s what’s coming up next…

“Video Games Live will be performing at the Hammersmith Apollo on 25th November; a great chance for you to experience video game sounds at their best, and a rare opportunity to see other SEGA composers such as Richard Jacques.
