Special Units Guide
Hi guys,
For those of you that have got your hands on either a pre-order exclusive unit or the Empire: Total War Special Forces edition, here is a guide on how the requirements for getting them in-game.
Pre-Order 1
Deaths Head Hussars: Unique unit for Prussia, recruited from Imperial Palace in Brandenburg region.
Pre-Order 2
USS Constitution: Unique unit for America, recruited from Drydock in North America.
Pre-Order 3
Dahomey Amazons: Recruited from Governor’s Residence building in Morocco, Algiers and Tunis regions.
Special Edition Units
Rogers Rangers: Unique unit for Great Britain, recruited from Army Barracks in North America.
Ghoorkas: Recruited from Governor’s Residence building in Kashmir region.
‘Corso Terrestre’ Guerillas: Recruited by Spain from Magistrate building in Spain region.
HMS Victory: Unique unit for Great Britain, recruited from Steam Drydock in England region.
Organ Gun: Recruitable by Ottoman Empire from Cannon Foundry.

That would be unfair to those who paid $20 EXTRA for those units. The way I look at it, EVERYONE should get access to the pre-orders at some point, since nothing extra was paid to get those, other than early payment. That would be fair.

Hey Sensei, I preordered the Special Forces edition of Empire and I picked it up at my local Game Stop store. Since I preordered it, do I get the pre-ordered units too? How do I get those extra 3 units? Thanks.

It’d be a bit unfair to give out the extra units for free seeing as the Special Forces edition cost more. Unless Creative gave money back.

You need to have a way to get all the units. I have seven but there is no way I could have ever got all of the nine. If you are going to release units you better make sure everyone can get them. This is really annoying cause its seems like a way to get more money. I can’t respect a company who starts to slowly look at its costumers like cows rather than fans. I hope you guys start giving us what we want and allow the units to be downloadable for a FAIR price or free to make up for the bugs. Or else you loose support and your means of living.

Empire Total war is very Interesting Sratigic game . I love this game and I want to play this game . But in Bangladesh PC games Market this Game is not so available,so that’s way i don’t no I will have to play this games or not!!

The logical resolution would be to allow purchase of the Special/Elite Units at a nominal fee.
That way everyone gets access to them and the people who paid extra upfront don’t feel cheated.
Also, Creative Assembly get some more coin for their coffers.
(And anyone who thinks CA doesn’t deserve it need to be realistic about the difficulty in making a PC only game in this ‘casual gamer/console heavy’ industry.)

After awhile, they should release the pre-order units to everyone for freeand also allow you to upgrade your purchase with the other four in a sorta unit pack for 20 bucks, that way poeple who couldnt find the speical forces edition at the store (Like me)could upgrade their game.

Well I guess maybe they’ll be available through mods sooner or later? Anyways it doesn’t matter. I think there will be plenty of user created new units as soon as the game is moddable.

@ Zachary – you can only obtain 1 of the 3 pre-order units – which one you get depended on where you pre-ordered it, Game, Amazon and Gameplay where some of the various places you could get different ones.
I received an email from the place I pre-ordered with a code to download the content from Steam.
In regards to the special forces units in general – I agree that they shouldn’t be made available as I and many others paid extra money for the privilege of getting these units. And the ones available via pre-order where for pre-order on the Special Forces edition only so again, we’ve all paid extra for these.

i decided to buy the preorder units after i already had a “without” version installed. so i just added the code when i got the game second time. it works fine with the MP mode where i can use the pre order unit, but i cant recruit my ass kicking death head hussars in my prussian campaign!? is there a possibilty to have them there also (i started the campaign on the old version and had already the max construction in brandenburg before i unlocked the unit) or do i have to start a new campaign with prussia (hopefully not lol)?

no sign of the death’s head hussars, I’ve got an imperial palace in brandenburgh and playing as the prussians. (and yeah I pre-ordered from Game). Any suggestions ?

It would be nice if the pre-order units would become available to all at some point. It is kind of messed up that there are all different versions of the game out there and that nobody can have access to all of the special units. It really makes no sense. I paid the extra money for the Special forces edition and I wouldn’t mind paying a couple of bucks for the others as well (although, I do find that to be a bit of an underhanded marketing scheme). They should at least be made available. Maybe as a reward for all of us who have to deal with STEAM.

I think it would be in your best interest to let us buy these units as downloadable upgrades.
P.S. I bought my game from Best Buy. Where is the USS Constitution I was promised.

I pre-ordered the special forces edition from play.com with the USS Constitution pre order code but i haven’t been given the pre order code to put into steam to unlock the unit, whats going on with that? anything you guys can do to help?

Today while I played multiplayer my Ottoman opponent used organ guns in the multiplayer game. I was in the impression that special units are not usable in the multiplayer games.
I feel very dissatisfied for game design that multiplayer game is unbalanced because not every player can use same units. I also feel that I was given wrong information at official site as it clearly state about empire total war special edition “these elite units which will then appear in the single player game.”
If this is bug it needs to be fixed because it ruins the multiplayer game for those who own the normal version of the game.

How about giving gamers something simple like the old dev console for this games. That should suffice my appetite. For all the hype Empire doesn’t even have a simple tilde console lol.

Why can’t we play the Indians on the American Continent from the start of the game? This sure would make thing interesting!
Things for Indians to do; All tribes can join together to battle the influx from Europe. Steal technology from anyone. Enjoy the science enhancements that the others do but with their own changes. (If they had done this in the first place, you & I would not be here!)
How about the Pirates? Also would make things interesting! Pirates were after gold & money, but they did join together to pillage & plunder. John LaFeet, was a pirate before he joined the American cause. Give them a cause to fight for, (take over coloneys & make money) & they would work together. If you think about if for a while they were the first version of the modern Street Gangs, but based on the high seas.
Why not start the game earlier, just after Jamestown? I know you do this in the individual area but let the game role & see what happens.

I pre-ordered the special forces edition from Game, which meant I got the deaths head hussars along with all the special edition units, but I would still like to get the other 3 at some point so I think its a good idea. I would pay a moderate fee to get them too.

It would be great if there was acces to buy specail units for standard edition for 20$ via steam. I would buy them straight away and I don’t think i would be the only one doing that.
The reasons why I didn’t buy the special forces edition was:
There were only the regular edition in all stores in my town and I didn’t want to go to the other city for the special forces edition. And i had too slow internet connection to download it via steam at release time.

There is a fix to unlock all of the units. You can download the special forces units + all the pre-order ones, too, so you can have every single unit.

hi, i bought special forces edition and i’ve a small request for you:could you change in the next patch the color of the uniforms of Bulkeley’s regiment from white to red,please?

Great series of games CA!!! Started wih Shogun and have been hooked ever since. Recently bought the Napoleon Total War Limited Edition and have been playing the campaigns and started reading everyone here complaining about not being able to access the “special units” for Empire Total War. I would also be interested, as I’m sure a few others around the globe, to see these other unique units in the Napoleon Total War game as well. Since I unlocked the special “Heroes of the Napoleonic Wars” and “The Elite Regiment Units” for play in NTW and have experienced an extra “rush” when they appear on the battlefield, I would also like to see the special units for ETW, if possible. Not having originally purchased them I would be glad to pay a small fee OR make them accessible after reaching a certain rank in the “STEAM” system, or reaching some other “acheivement” guideline as specified by CA. Just a thought from a Yank across the pond…
