Still crashing when attempting to move fleets on campaign map, or it takes a long time to view fleet and give orders, especially to the north of the campaign map in Europe theater.
Also, could you please advise if when bankrupt troops desert armies since one turn I have full units and the next I have most units at half strength!
Cracking game anyway even if annoying when it cracks.
Thanks,
Frans

I dont understand why you felt it necessary to mess with the economics and stuff. I have been playing a game for a loong time now and am finally doing really good but now I am losing money when before i had like 20k per turn, And whats the deal with units costing more to recruit? I feel like I dont even want to play this anymore

It’s great to see all these fixes, but on the money part I went from + 20000 to -17000 in a game, which means it’s a crapy update from my point of view and I lost the game I was playing.

As much as I enjoy the stability that comes with the new update, my current game is ruined by the balancing done by the developers. From earning a profit of 30,000 every turn, I’m down to 20,000. My game is unplayable now because there’s a threat of bankruptcy when I try to end my turn. Is there any way around this? I don’t want all my hard work wasted.

I am now in debt $120,000 once the update came into effect and before the update I was going to make $35,000. I want to finish my campaign with the old version. If the balance change was going to be $150,000 it would have been nice to know about it before Steam update came.

So you increased the costs of units and lowered the money making, brilliant. Now I can fight wars with 3-4 units instead of 20-30, no more having to worry about troops. Oh wait, I can no longer rebuild my units, nor can I can rebuild buildings destroyed when taking a region or rebuild what the enemy raids. In the hard version Iwith 6 regions, as Prussia, I am making about 300 a turn, Courland is nonstop attacking me with 6-8 units and all I can do is go on the defensive and try to rebuild 2-3 units every 2 turns while they attack every turn with 6-8 units. I cannot rebuild anything. I was making maybe 3,000 a turn now maybe 300. In the normal version same set up, I have East and West Prussia, Poland and Brandenburg and am makoing about 1,000 a turn and Poland is in revolt every 2 turns, and Courland is still attacking with 6-8 units every 2 turns. I am barely holding on, and I know Austria is about o declare war. The main problem with all Totalwar games is the only nations that seem to make money are the NPC ones. Actual players can either do nothing for 40 turns and try to build an economy or attack and watch as it all falls apart because you cannot garrison rebellious regions and fight at the same time. The hard version sucks so bad now its boring as hell. I invade 1 region, and then spend the next 10 years trying to get ready to attack another region. It was already a challaenge trying to build an economy and an army at the same time, enemy nations blocking ports and trade routes took care of “too much” money. Now there is not enough to play with period. I have beaten every game with every nation at least twice on normal and was trying hard, I won as Marata(my personal fav) and then patch occured. I went from owning all of India and most of the Ottoman empire fully developed and making about 10,000 a turn to loising 50,000 a turn, then 10,000 a turn. Forget the 90 dhows I had in the trade areas and all the economic builds, my armies all died, half my regions revolted and I lost everything in less than 10 turns. Now I cannot even attack on the first of even 10th turns. I have to build wait-wait-wait-etc…-build-repeat. Good gods what are you guys using for brains. Its a joke, unless we can start mking money again, I a very long time Totalwar fanatic will use this new Empire disc as a coaster and go back to playing Age of Empires and Civilization. The NPC nations build at 20-30 times the rate I can now, its no longer challanging, its a massacre. At least 5 other people I know have already returned their games for refunds or put the discs away. I will keep looking at the forums and if the money making ability comes back then I will too, but until then, thanks for a few weeks of an awesome game, sorry you ruined it.

BTW in my 1st post I mentioned I was playing the hard-hard version of the Maratha Empire and was winning. I had already won the game, and it was 1769. I had stayed out of wars, I only fought one nation at a time. I am an aggressive player but know how to build an economy also. Every military push was followed by a period of several( not 10-20 ) years of consolidation. When I had extra money I build trade ships. It takes money to make money, before I made another push I usually built up some money reserves because I knew my trade would suffer for a spell, but now all that is impossible. If you go to war with a minor nation its to the death as they never ever make peace no matter what you offer. Most nations refuse to trade no matter what you offer, there were already limits on the amounts of money you made, if you created too large a military you went bankrupt and lose half of it. If you went to war the enemy could raid your trade routes and cut your money. If some people were making a ton of money in the end game its because they built their economires up and managed them carefully hoping for that result. Now you have fixed that. Unless you play the easy version of the game you will never again see cash reserves or a strong economy. The NPC nations get to build economies and armies at the same time, we get to have a tiny bit of either, and gone are the days of fast attacks, no more attacking on turn 1, unless you really want to lose fast. Now you have to spend the first 10 years plus building up the economy and no military and pray you are not attacked. Costs went up and ability to make money went down, my gods are you guys working for the government, yhou apparently all took training under the last president. Its great to try and fight minor nations who have 1 region and 2-3 stacks of troops 15-20 untis each and you have maybe 15 units period and after the first fights you cannot even rebuild your losses but they can lol. This game was the best I had ever seen even with the problems but now its so slow paced and boring, I am also going back to internet chess and maybe start watching golf on tv, both are faster moving then Empire Totalwar is now.

Okay, thanks for patches, but the increase in cost is unbalanced. The cost of my armies Zaps my bank, even after I take new territory. I will not add armies, but will take new territory, inprove farms, and my bank is sucked dry. However, AI armies grow, and show up in mass, and even if I defeat that first push, two or three groups of armies show up fresh. If I am Britain, Jamaica and Bahamas will not let me improve, recruit new ships, or fix damaged ships, it is grayed out. On that point, why is it when you take over territory, is the ability to recruit new armies grayed out? If you move forward, you supply line is stretched thin, and now, with the the bank screwed up, you can not build your army anyway.

Everything about this new update made the gameplay alot better and fixed alot of problems.
Theres just one little problem, the little “tweaks” as they call them that were applied to the amount of money you can make during the later part of the campaign and the cost of naval and land unit upkeep simply sky-rocketed and made the game pretty near impossible to play. My earned funds per turn went from 14,500 to -22,000 just from downloading this IDIOTIC update. The game was alot more fun before the so called TWEAKS that were made. DO SOMETHING CREATIVE ASSEMBLY !!!!!!! please.

Yes, when you mean “save game” compatible, you mean it fouls the game you were playing? I went from a budget surplus of 19,000+ to a negative budget of -6000. This made it neccessary to delete the game and start a new one. Next time, why not have an option to apply the fix?

Very Sad, since the patch was released now the game just dumps to desktop every time I try to launch a campaign. Good job on releasing such carefully tested SW! Boy I sure love Steam to, by the way… if this were just a normal game I could re-install and then not install this 1.2 release, but now thanks to Steam that isn’t an option.
Sure am glad I spent the $50 bucks on this one! What a deal, I give you $50 you give me a game that doesn’t work and Steam a program I don’t want…
thanks again, keep up the good work.

Hi,
I brought my pc to my local computer store because my parents don’t like the game, but I wanted to buy and play the game, in the computer store they were going to install it (they said) and the day after I picked my computer up again and paid them the price for the game. When I got home again and I played etc. 1 month afterwards the computer store was gone because they owner sold the shop of personal reasons. and now the patch is out and I start Steam up for the first time since I got the game and what I see now is that the game isn’t installed with Steam and I expect that it is a pirated version! Is there anything I can do to get the update? Or do I just have to talk to my parents again to get the game?

Awesome! A lot of good little fixes, that really were never bothersome, just occasionally irritating. The only thing i have notice is that after i applied the update i basically went bankrupt in every saved game i had. For example as the United Prov I was making around 26,000 per turn and after i applied the update i was at about -43,000 per turn. And that happened in everyone of my saved games. Frustrating.

PROBLEM WITH ARTILLERY
Problem with the artillery. I guess I better establish the background here. Ph.D. in history speciialzing in military history. Have actually fired Civil War and Rev War era cannons with LIVE ammunition and not just blanks, author of a number of books set in that era.
1. I feel that the effectiveness of canister, especially at close range is ineffective and unrealistic. I’ve played battles were several batteries were over run by a single unit, while firing canister, most of it missing by a wide margin or guns firing at targets not threatening them directly. There was nothing more deadly on an 18th century battlefield than an assault on well positioned guns, especially several batteries worth.
2. Fire control. Perhaps I am missing something. A standard tactic of any battery commander, when facing close assault, was order his weapons to load and then HOLD fire until range was close and absolutely deadly, rather than be caught in a “reload” after firing at his opponents from a hundred or more yards out.
3. Perhaps i am missing something but fire control is terrible. I click on selected targets repeatedly and yet guns will turn and do an absolutely “fratricidal” firing to flanking at times blowing away their own limber teams while an enemy is attacking head on from another direction.
4. Again, better fire control, an ability with a click to hold fire and then with a click release that fire at a properly selected target and yes though fratricidal fire was a constant hazard then as now, please could we patch the more absurd examples.
These traits are especially annoying with gun crews that are experienced. New crews of course could be rattled, standard tactic was to send forward a screen of skirmishers to harass, hopefully triggering the battery to fire, and then before it reloads rush the guns. So yet again, ability to HOLD fire, to unleash it especially on a selected target.
Sincerely,

Annyone else feel that increasing the recruitment and upkeep costs ruined the game because the hard levels are nearly impossible now to play? I like playing on the very hard level because it offers the only real challenge when it come to ai, but with everything being more expensive, its impossible to play the game. Plus you lose money later in the game What the Hell!

G’Day Everyone,
I’ve been a Creative Assembly player from the very beginning and the products have been getting better and better. I love Empire Total War, but seriously, I’m about to send it back. The constant crashing in naval combats is driving me nuts. I’ve updated on steam and it’s still crashing.
My computer is 12 months old with (at the time) one of the best graphics cards and loads of memory and RAM, 6GB. This should not be happening.
I really hate going through steam as well.
Just my thoughts. Love the game, hate the crashing.
Kind regards
Greg

The economy in this game is pretty rough. I never played before 1.2 so I dont know what it used to be like but I do know history and Louis XIV was able to field a 400,000 man army, and somehow I dont see that happening in this game. These nations were not dirt poor as they are in the game. The French tax collectors pulled in millions of livres during the time of Louis XIV. From what I understand, players could get lots of money before this patch but that some how made the tame easy. I believe more effort should have been made to make the game difficult through diplomacy; how did Europe handle Louis XIV and his powerful army? Just my opinion, if the game were not so detailed I would not even care.

After playing this game, I’ve realized what actually made the battles in Rome and Medieval II so epic. The shouts of the troops, the thunder of the marching armies, battlecrys…is the game SUPPOSED to have these sounds? Or is that something you just left out, or something you are working to fix?

Just to emphasize the point, the patch is great overall. However the economic “tweaks” are just plain horrible. Players work hard to create high income economies in the later stages of a game and it shouldn’t be slashed just because the AI is incompetent. Return the previous economic and unit settings and make the AI a challenge. I HAD an empire stretching around the world making 100k per turn which fielded several dozens of stacks and navies, now it’s gutted and I’m losing 68k per turn. All those hours I poured into the game are wasted and I just can’t see the enjoyment in playing anymore.

I don’t know what everyone is talking about in this coment section. Aside from the unit cost (which doesn’t matter to me since I was bankrupt anyway) I haven’t even had most of these problems. I don’t crash that often, I have a save replay option on all of my total war titles, I can load my saved games, and what problems there were aren’t happening much anymore. My only complaint is that EVERYTHING takes an eternity to load.
Oh and for those who keep begging for multiplayer campaigns: I you use your logical sense, you’d see it was imposible. In order to play against another player in a total war campaign, you would have to be online at the same time for extended, planned lengths of time. So unless you are going to sit in front of your computers for days on end without food, water, sleep, or work, it is not likely to happen.

Everytime I go to the port in newfoundland now. My game crashes. I like this game a lot. But it still needs more fixes. Thanks, Joe. Looking forward to the next update.

I think the update was good no problems for me at all, there will be more updates which of course will make the game even better, and to the people who have complained about money issues in the game well I think you are not running your economies properly/building large armies to fast/just plain bad tacticians/to impatient with everything in general actually. Maybe some of you should stick with Rome:total war or maybe Medieval 2:total war, Empire total war just seems to advanced for you.

Im not sure where i posted the article about my infantry always losing in melee, but if anyone read my complaint and included the charge bonus and decrease in defense, along with other changes along those lines, I would like to thank them very much. I will get the patch and see if it works. Thank you.

thank you for responding to my problem with my infantry always losing in melee. My only problem now is that men only fight 1v1. Thanks especially for unit stat variation. it will make the game a lot more enjoyable.

every 10 turns after clicking end turn… Every unit i own halfs in size across the entire campaign map …only my units not the Ai units…the only way i found to fix this problem is to repair every individual unit …This is costing me a fortune every couple of turns…

well, i think the game’s fit for me, works fine, no crashes, my specs are , q8400, 4 gb ram, and geforce 9500gt.
but my only requirement would be to enable the control of muslim nations like persia, mughal empire, morroco and barbary states. i hope this is included in the next update
