Update 1.3 Features List
Hi guys,
Update 1.3 will be released for Empire: Total War on 22nd June 2009. Ahead of its release, here are the major features coming to the update:
We’ve worked on implementing the multi-threading in the game for multi-core processors and made many optimisations that will also help increase performance on single core machines.
Players will see huge benefits through increased frame rates particularly in land and naval battles.
14 Free Units have been included in this patch, adding a large amount of diversity to the playable factions and the armies the player will face. These units replace ‘generic’ equivalents giving each faction a unique identity on the battlefield. Here is a description of each free unit available in the update:
Prussian Grenadiers
Wearing a distinctive brass fronted mitre cap, the Prussian Grenadiers are an explosive force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.
Spanish Guardias de infateria
These elite guard infantry are charged with protecting the monarch and are a potent force on the battlefield.
Swedish lifeguard horse
This cavalry regiment forms part of the monarchs’ household guard. Superbly drilled, they act as a shock force on the battlefield.
Holland Horse Guard
Armed with heavy cavalry sabres, these disciplined cavalrymen represent the elite of the army.
Prussian Garde Du Corp
The Prussian Garde Du Corp are a replacement for the Prussian standard Household cavalry. These heavy horse shock troops are best used to break enemy lines and overrun enemy positions. With a strong charge and fearsome attack, these riders make short work of those who would oppose a Prussian monarch.
Prussian Life guard
The Prussian life guards are equipped similarly to line infantrymen. However their uniforms are altogether more splendid, marking them out as a superior force, in arrogance if nothing else. They do a good job as garrison troops and are dedicated to the crown.
Russian Grenadiers
This new Russian unit is great for assaults and their grenades pack a mighty punch!
Spanish Guardias De Corp
The Spanish Guardias De Corp replace household cavalry for Spain. With almost unbreakable morale, on the charge they are almost unstoppable.
Spanish Grenadiers
These are a replacement for the standard Spanish Grenadiers with a distinctive bearskin hat to mark them out as exemplary on the battlefield.
Swedish ‘Lifeguards of foot’
These are a highly trained replacement for the standard Swedish guard. They are often used as a force in a system that defends a monarchy and can be relied upon for utter loyalty and deadly accuracy in the field. Their professionalism is reflected in their fearsome battle reputation.
Holland Guard
The Holland Guards from the United Provinces are superior line infantry units. Carrying smoothbore muskets, they were traditionally chosen to protect the royal family and have an incredibly high morale, often making them the last troops to break in a fight.
Scots
The Scots are a Highland ex-patriate infantry used by the United Provinces, renowned for their deadly charge.
Swiss Infantry
Very disciplined infantry of the United Provinces with quick reload and excellent marksmanship.
Mamelukes
Mamelukes are fearless light horsemen, deadly when deployed against a broken or unsupported enemy.
Additionally the Spanish nation has had a new uniform design to better reflect its historical look.
Audio:
Sound loading has been made asynchronous, so heavy disc access is reduced to a minimum. This makes loading times faster and reduces any instances of ‘stuttering’. Unit group sounds have also been improved, for more realistic group movement. The primary sound library (Miles DLL) has been updated to stop occasional clicking. And we’ve added more sound variation for unit deaths and musket fire.
Campaign:
- Several crash bug fixes in saves, movement, agents and logic.
- Various optimisations have been made to AI and path systems to reduce the campaign map turn times.
- When the pirates are destroyed and re-emerge they now maintain a status of at war with all and are unable to enter into diplomatic negotiations.
- Added small ships on domestic trade routes from the trade nodes to home regions moving in the correct direction, i.e. with the flow of trade.
- The AI should now no longer repeatedly sign a diplomatic agreement and then break it the next turn. Treaties are more valuable and adhered to.
- We’ve fixed some border trade agreements allowing greater numbers of bordering factions to properly trade with one another.
- Movement arrows now reflect the range of the selected units, not the whole army/navy.
- AI will no longer counter-offer and ask for more money than the player has available.
- Fixed commerce raiding taking money from blockaded trade routes.
- Fixed navies getting stuck when forced to retreat from ports (tactial retreat).
- Fixed rare inability to attack certain ports.
- Fixed middle mouse button camera drag stopping working occasionally.
- Made emergent factions be at war with the faction they emerged against if that faction is human.
- Fixed various movement extent crashes.
- Changed background income for minor factions.
- Fixed diplomatic relations with emergent factions.
- Tactical withdrawal will now always leave armies on the landmass containing the settlement of a region.
- Changed war score system to make the AI more likely to accept peace.
- Fixed crash when embarking and disembarking armies at ports.
- Fixed trade ships not being correctly registered in trade nodes after splitting forces.
- Fixed government change diplomatic effect.
- Improved commerce raiding display on trade screen.
- Faction specific text is now used in diplomacy.
- Prevent players cancelling the movement of fleeing agents.
Balance changes
Units
- Charge bonus generally increased across the board for all units and melee defence reduced.
- Greater diversification of stats between different unit types designed to emphasise differences and improve balance.
- Redone costs for all units for multiplayer to improve game balance which better reflects the actual battlefield worth of each unit.
- Mob formation added in for Native American, irregular and some skirmisher units.
- Spot distance for light infantry, skirmishers, irregulars, light cavalry and missile cavalry increased allowing them to spot hidden units at longer distances.
- Russian line infantry stats have been boosted to allow them to compete more with other faction’s line infantry.
- Movement speed of all unit types reduced by 10%.
- Ammo for light infantry increased to 20, line to 15.
Land battle morale
- Charge morale bonus reduced from 10 to 4.
- Recent casualties, extended casualties and total casualties morale penalties increased slightly for higher percentages.
- Rear and flank exposed morale penalties increased.
Fatigue
- Fatigue penalty for melee reduced from 18 per tick to 10.
- Running fatigue penalty for heavy and light cavalry reduced from -3/-2 to -2/-1.
Artillery Changes
- Calibration area for cannons and howitzers reduced. Accuracy of non-round shot shot types reduced to compensate.
- Muzzle velocity of round shot for cannons increased to make them fire lower and bounce more, accuracy also increased.
- Lethality of shrapnel pieces reduced to match canister shot, range also reduced to 350.
- Load time for special shot types for howitzers increased slightly, and range reduced to 350.
- Calibration area for mortars increased, accuracy of round shot increased to compensate. Reload time increased slightly.
- Accuracy of 18 lbr horse guard artillery restored to 65.
Hit points of gun trains increased to 50, all guns and caissons to 25.
Thanks,
Mark O’Connell
and the flat, featureless multiplayer map, strictly for balance purposes – what an easy feature to add, and what a plus that would be.

please install the french faction after the revolution in blue and with blue unit because the white is the color of the french kingdom and no the color of the french republic.
thank you…

No new polish unit? Given that countries like Prussia, Spain or UP got so many of them, this doesn’t just feel like disappointment – more like an insult LOL. If this move has been dictated by some “clever” exec who wants to appease fans in countries with major sales, then it may backfire on CA. After all, millions of Poles live, work (and buy Total War games) in all over the world.

i belive that the white uniforms for france after the revolution MUST change. The real colour should be blue
Posted by ilias on June 18th, 2009 at 5:41 pm
Also, you should think about removing the wings used by the Commonwealth (Polish-Lithuanian) Winged Hussars. Even though they are pretty cool and extravagant, they were never used in battle since they were highly unstable; therefore, the government made them strictly ceremonial. They did wear them, just not in battle, let alone in a charge since probably the rider would have been thrown out of the horse. Anyways, the game is really historically accurate and I LOVE IT. Keep up the excelent work and thanks for those new units.

i like the new units for united provinces as they didnt have any unit a other western nation couldnt get except the fluyt. i am not sure but when prussia revolt they get the flag germany has today, but that flag was after ww2 maybe black white red are the right colours. but its not so important i guess. sorry for my bad enlglish

my english is a bit bad , is the new units only avaible on multi or in campaign to ? i hope to see it in campaign. multi player battles are way to unbalanced , for ex i play against a higher player than i and in the end of the battle he only wins with 1 unit and gains alot of pts and the looser alot to .
and what about the ottomans ? they are just a waste due the way they not interact in the campaign .and to end , for wend can we see AI european nations going into India ?
Posted by pedro on June 18th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
sounds good. esoecialy the part about making more specialized units. more realistic
Posted by saylax24 on June 18th, 2009 at 8:06 pm
Can you tweak the campaign length to be objective based rather than waiting 100 years to see the final scene! it will improve on replayability.

there is an odd crash when fighting in Indian Fortresses. hope it is rectified!

Whats in is in. This patch is frozen. If you want something not here post it in the appropriate place, which isn’t here.
Looks like a lot of solid improvements to the game. Can’t wait until Monday.

Please could you make the United States a playable Faction in the Grand Campaign as it would be interesting to see Amrica expand into other theatres.

Glad to see they did some work with increasing performance. Hopefully it makes a difference. I hate any amount of slow downs. They are so irritating. Even the slightest slow down bugs me to no end.
Posted by Anon on June 18th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
Outstanding. Looking forward to multi-core improvements and the campaign map not freezing for a minute+ when selecting a naval group. Turn time improvements are also welcome. I’ve not played the game since 1.2 because of those issues, so this is the last chance for me.
Posted by Ryan Spooner on June 18th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
Is there a fix in the works for the AI’s inability to execute naval landings with armies?

Agreed: the color change for the French Republic would be awesome.

French in blue uniforms after the revoltion should be a must please!
Posted by gatesy on June 19th, 2009 at 3:31 am
Just a few suggestions
1. Make it so that you can type in the amount of money when dealing with diplomatic relations…makes it much easier.
2. The same thing applies with custom battles.
3. Having more factions available for play would be a nice feature, I understand why in campaign this might be more difficult, but for custom battles it would really spice it up!
4.There is a glitch in raod to independance chapter two when at a certain point you stop receiving missions, and therefore cannot proceed to chpt 3.
5. I am personally encountering a bug where I cannot garrison multiply groups of units in houses, despite those houses being able to hold that number of units in their capacity.
6.Some missions would be a nice feature, especially in the early stages of the game.
7. Just as a long term thing, an improved AI script would be nice, when groups of men stand around getting shot at by my troops garrisoned in a house and dont do anything well…it speaks for itself.
8.Perhaps a few more lovely historical battles would be nice.
9.When trading with other factions…they seem to treat their technology as some sort of drug that they cant let go of…5 technologies for one and they still say no…it would just help the game move along faster.
10. The trade system…I have about 10 ports in the americas…but for some reason when one of them is blockaded I lose all my money from the entire theatre…just a tad bit annoying when a pirate sloop makes you go almost bankrupt in one turn. I believe this issue is also effecting trade with other nations (one of Austria’s ports blockaded=lose all money from that faction)…I’m not sure of this but I looked at the numbers and I’m pretty sure this seems to be the case.
thank you

While I am entirely grateful for your efforts The Creative Assembly, could you guys please [also] look into the following?
- Issue with landing units on the small islands in North American (i.e. Leeward Island, etc).
- Major audio issues (for example, even if I cut the music volume to half, it still outweighs the normal sound effects)
- I also would like to see the colour change for French Units
- I’m not sure why, but there seems to be intense lag whenever I zoom into [only] Native American troops.
- Cavalry have intense trouble with chasing down fleeing units (even worse, when the enemy unit is broken, my cavalry units cannot kill anything)
- Indianman Trading Ships cost more to upkeep than what they rake in as trade profit (or whatever it is called).
- PLEASE, for the LOVE OF GOD, FIX the achievements (especially AMERICAN HERO).
- Regarding the Road to Independence campaign, please fix the Spanish and French reaction to the Americans. They are totally unreasonable at the bargaining table.
- Please look at the Hessian units (I find they could use a boost of some sort).
Thank you!

Please, Could You correct the problem of the jerky/saccato Video cinematics (“Jerky/saccato are the translation I found for the French word “saccadé”).
It is a huge problem that prevent many of yours players to see the beautifull video of the games. And there also is a bug in the Franch Version, the Cinematics before and after the battle of Bunker hill are in Italian. If at least it could be in English^”…We could understand it.
And thanks you for your work.

I would like to see Australia perhaps added to the campaign map, also if there is an expansion game coming out could it be during the Napoleonic wars.

few ideas for you guys :
-show how many turn will take to the unit selected to go to the place you are pointing
- 4 differents difficulties is not enought! please make others!
- permit to change the difficulty of the battles only for the battles you let the computer make, to force us to make the battle by our own ( i’m usualy too lazy to make them! )

I hope unit pathfinding has improved, especially cavalry, seems to get stuck at fences, some of them not being able to jump, so the whole unit gets drug out.

I really like how CA is adding new unit or replacements. I would love to see Ethan Allen’s Green Mountain Boys and Daniel Morgan’s Riflemen added to the US. I know they could be included in the Long Riflemen unit, but I think they were unique like in the same way as Roger’s Rangers and plain Rangers for the British are. And maybe Lafayette’s Pirates from the B. of New Orleans (especially if the expansion is set in Napoleonic warfare).
Posted by Consuelo on June 19th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
Can you please change the Sound of Fallen Soldiers, thats sounds like an louder Mushket shot. And add a New Volume Control for the Mushket Sounds, Troop Voices and Ohter Sounds? Not all in One. Some Sounds are too loud :-/
Thanks..
Posted by ofpomaster on June 19th, 2009 at 3:56 pm
Please tell me that the path finding when units are in a fortress is improved so that while defending your men can actaully go anywhere inside the fortress and will actually fire the cannons and the cannons will have more than a rifle range when defending and fire cannister at close range attacks.
I have seen many improvements in the field battles amd naval battle, but fortress battles are still awkward for all the wrong reasons.
Posted by Henry Clinton on June 19th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
Hey. Nice fixes you guys are making.
I hope you will improve forts. Forts are kinda useless, as the AI surpasses them. You should make the radius of a fort bigger. So it’s a valuable obstacle.
I hope CA also can make Cities bigger. So when you lay siege to Vienna, It doesn’t look like a town. Further one, I hope you can insert two rank fire volley. What will be perfect to stop cavalry.

What about light infantry for Spain!!!
I know they are not recruitable in the campaign!!!
This will be fixing in upcoming patch!?

Awesome! The game is already so enjoyable! I llok very forward to the new units and features!
Curious, will the next Total war be the American civil war, World War One or a remake of the Rome Total war? Any of the above would be great!

how about the bug that light infantry shoots even if the enemy is out of range(after the enemy routs) and waste thier ammo for nothing?!
and about the sharpnel: this would make the foot artillary useless, sense this is it’s only good thing. in an unflat ground(and siege assults in preticular!) the are preaty useless.
Posted by azumbabumna on June 19th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
also, the improvments to the unit is nice, but if the stats are the same it doesnt make much of a differrance. we need more veriations of troops. i played rome total war with every playable faction many times, because every single faction(the 4 romans don’t count) has a different army type, and that leads to different results every time. in empire total war, there are only the eu armies(all the same), the native american armies, and the eastern armys. inside those categories all the armys are almost the same, leading to the same capagin every time.
Posted by azumbabumna on June 19th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
Great work but you seem to have left out the most important unit in the swedish army during this time, the caroleans who were the most important unit in the swedish army with incredible morale and renowned over the world for their courage. it would be good if you included them too
thanks

I think that you should make some emergent factiones playable like the scotts, irish and norway. It whould be fun to fight a rebelion whit them and then lead them in the grand campaign. Thank you for an otherwise exelent game. (Sorry for my bad english)

I thinks that its great that they have made theser changes. Yes its not everything but its a definite improvement. Theres only 2 things I would change. In my game, Ive noticed that AI factions never sign peace agreements with another. They always remina at war. I would fix that and I would also make minor factrions playable.

Can’t wait till Monday, I haven’t played in weeks because it seemed pointless before the update. One request for the next patch: please add mass fire (like the minutemen) for grenadiers, I’d like to run them up to the enemy, give one mass volley, and then charge rather than waiting for them to rank fire or platoon fire.
Posted by cmh on June 20th, 2009 at 5:32 am
You guys should put in the other factions of the game. I mean, I heard it’s due to a technical problem, but then how come some mods can do it and even why can all the other Total War games do it? I think it can be done and should be done. I’d love to play as all of the minor nations. It would obviously add a lot of replay value to the game due to players trying to unlock all of the factions. I know you guys have heard this before and all, but I mean, there’s gotta be a way to make it happen.
Posted by James on June 20th, 2009 at 6:16 am
We really need more factions. The fact that that feature disappeared in this Total War is my only disappointment– a major disappointment, in truth.

Could you make the AI more aggressive in the campaign nd in battles because some countries do nothing the hole campaign. Could u put in missions throughout the campaign and make diplomacy more effective. Thanx

Hello!
Id like to see more playable nations that can be unlocked after the campaign is completed and i think a uniform and national colour change would be good after a rebellion (ESPECIALLY WITH FRANCE!)
video certificates are there to help you make the right choice, thanks for listening, goodbye

This sounds like a really neat update. Thank you for putting so much effort into it. I was wondering if at any point, some of the smaller factions would become playable (such as the 13 colonies, portugal….) In midevil total war, once smaller nations were defeated, they were playable. I think this would be a neat feature to add. Thank you!

Yeah I want to see The United States as a playable faction in the grand campaign also. Interested in palying them a lot more. Hopefully the patch fixes the crashing in playin the U.S. in the road to independence and the crashes that take place when playing the French in the grad campaign as well. ANyway good to see CA trying to fix some of the early problems with the game. I love this game, been waiting years for the total war series to come out with a game like this, so all in all I’ve been happy with this title, minus a few set backs in the beginning…good work CA and thanks for not forgetting about the game and trying to improve it
Posted by Jay on June 20th, 2009 at 11:57 pm
Nice!
Finally you uppgrade the swedish, history tells us that Sweden had some of the best troops that could be found. So I really like that you finally took that to heart. I would recommend to look inte the Swedish Drabants that where used during this time. A life guard cavalry regiment made up of the best officers there was. Clad in yellow elkskin uniforms and with curiasses. Still serve as a royal guard at cermonies to this day. The Captain the Drabants had the rank oc Colonel and the “private” where like luitenants and Captains. I would really like to see them on the battlefield. There are even pictures on the net of their authentic uniforms that the swedish armed forces have in their possesion.
Please research Seden more and you will se that there are a lot to do, but of course there hase to be balanced aswell. Altough Britain is hardly balanced in my oppinion
Thanks again for the new units.

Please fix the bug that when Puckle Guns are destroyed by cannons their remains have 12lbs cannons instead of Puckel Guns. And also when one fleet is moving and you click on another the game freezes.
Thanks,
Riley.

Hello!
There is a perfect news! Thank you so much!
And one question – what about the display characteristics of veterans and new recruits? Are the characteristics chahges display in strategic map?

Tanxs CA, this game is the best strategy game, i have ever played, will it be another expansion for empire total war? and tanxs to all of the team members that are involve in this project, can’t wait to play this new unit.

Excellent work on this patch, loved the personalization of the factions trough new units, but still… I believe that the the main changes, asides from bug fixes, should be the inclusion of new factions, with Portugal (the absence of this country from the start , considering the pictured epoch, is almost criminal) and Denmark on top of that list. New territories would also be another nice touch to the game. Perhaps something around Brazil and African coastlines?…
Cheers!

Hi,
I love the game and I’ve played all the series except the Shogun.
Empire is great but I would love to see the following:
1- A new nation arise will be Egypt, Muhamad Ali has made Egypt independant from the Ottomans and even invaded them until he was broke by the allignment of many western forces, they did that to break him before he breaks the Ottomans who were standing as a wall against the Russian expansion. Hmm it sounds like a seed for a new campaign, don’t you think?
2- Is there a way to change the ruling way from Monarch to democratic or something?
3- Ai seems to be so stupid and they do some repeated moves for nothing, you see armies going to a point then coming back without doing anything, they are slow, by the time I conquor half Europe almost nothing really happened for other nations. They should be stronger with plans, it appears to me that Ai has no plan, how come for example Prussia invade all the Austrian regions and leave one almost empty? who not finish it?! So until it is possible to have a multi player campaign let’s try to improve the Ai performance, shal we?
3- When I do automatic resolve for battels the outcome sometimes is crazy and not logic, for example attacking with 5 groups of cavalary against 4 groups of cannon and a line infantry the logic says that the cavalary are too quick and will attack the men at the cannon making them useless and ofcourse against the line infantry they are stronger as soon as they hit them. There are many more examples of that un logic outcome of battles, I hope you resolve it.
I appreciate all the effort that is done and I hope the next step in the series will be the world from WWI and going up to WWII and more, Wow that would be fun and I imagine many expansions later like the Arab-Israelie conflict, Korean War and more.
Regards to all.

Please, change the AI in the single player campaign!! the campaign still too easy also with the more difficult level….too easy…

I hope you fix melee fighting. As it is now soldiers fight between them 1vs1, so even if you outnumber the enemy unit you gain no actual advantage in combat.

Austria needs a regular rifle unit. maybe the jaegers should bee changed back into rifle units and Austria should be given light companies as well. Also prussian rifle unit recruitment shouldn’t be limited to just to two regions. And why doesn’t france have dragoons and the british not have any light calvary? maybe you could also allow for the light dragoons to skirmish and use light infantry tactics when dismounted. also i don’t think that light companies should be so weak in hand to hand. shouldn’t they be at least close to the capabilities of line units? And shouldn’t prussia’s light companies have at least a reload time of 35 like their line units?

This patch is highly appreciated by many people. Especially the full quad core support feature.
–But will it utilize all the threads of the CORE I7 (8 threaded cpu)?
Since the CORE i7 is stated as higly recommended for ETW.–
Would be nice if the next patch would offer more support towards the i7.(mainly full thread support). Since i own a 965 core i7

Just a couple of suggestions,
1. A few more unique American units, for instance the Green Mountain Boys, would be nice.
2. The Texas Revolution and the U.S. Civil War might make a good expansion pack.
3. Also, if you could make a later period than the current late period (early to mid 1800s), new nations could be created, such as the Republic of Texas, more unique units could be created, such as the Gatling gun, and new weapons for units could be researched, such as the more advanced breach loading guns, like the Sharps rifle, and repeating rifles.
Thank You,
Brian

it would be soooo cool to see another 12 factions :O
you could build up loads of hype
and maybe an expansion with little campaigns (such as the jackobite rebbellion or the opium wars in china!)
thanks

Hi ive already commented once but here is some thing i think we could use
1. a defences system in buildings for instance= trenches add protection against fire fougasse puts fougasses round perimeter and chevaux de frise stop units entering or leaving building or creates pit falls
2. maybe some form of unform editor for single player i want to make the newfoundland regiments or lees legion from the american revolutionry war
3. highland infantry for england
4. irish infantry for britain
5.a battle editor
6. a heavy metal soundtrack!!!
7. ok maybe not the heavy metal but certainly the brit grenadier song and many other songs of that period (MOZART???)
8. elvis smiley faces everywhere look at this one and copy 9;0 its elvis!!!!
9. better coldstreams
10.american disiplined rifle men
11. the russians need to have at least one port in home region
12. nations should be less balanced the balance is less equal than in medieval but still i dont think that its to balanced
13. missions throughout
14. foreign legion troops such as napoleons polish guard lancers or brunswick guys for england
15. a unit editor
16. EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! british grenadier guards
17. more advanced tech such as gatlings bolt actions martini henrys and such
18. south african theatre
19.the azores as a region-a good naval power base
20. combined arms support such as coastal battles
21. more bridges

just read some suggestions for future games now just some points to make
1.the guys at CA havent even finsihed empire yet or even released a expansion so stop suggesting stuff
2. now to go against everything i just said
3. WW1 would be horribly borring just no! if you want action for ww2 strategy go for HOI3 and if you want squad tactics Red orchestra is the way to go
4. any way for the next total war game i have 2 suggestions
number one the obvious remake rome
2 this may seem a bit of a relic but remake shogun but a bigger map some things you could add are
CHINA
EAST RUSSIA
INDIA
MONGOLS
PACIFIC ISLANDS TO BE EXPLOITED
SET THIS IN MEDIEVAL TIMES AND HAVE THE PROPER 2 TURN A YEAR SYSTEM AND MAKE THE MAP EPICLY HUGE MONGOL INVASIONS SAMURAIS NINJAS TRANSFORMERS THIS COULD HAVE IT ALL ANY WAY SHOGUN IS THE ONLY GAME THAT HAS PASSED AWAY INTO FAR GONE MYTH IN MY OPINION MAKE THE LEGEND RETURN
OH AND AS FOR AN EMPIRE EXPANSION
1.NAPOLEON THE FIRST CAMPAIGNS PRUSSIA RUSSIA ETC…
2.NAPOLEONS BACK WATERLOO ETC…
3.CRIMEA
4.AMERICAN CIVIL WAR
5.JACOBITES!!!
6.ALAMO!!!

Regarding Protectorates, I think its important that when the Player is at war with a nation and having a Protectorate by his side in the war, once the Player makes peace with the enemy nation, peace must be also made withe Protectorate.

Hello CA. Excellent game. But there is one thing that intrigues me. You then say that the story accurately, then why Portugal is out? One of the greatest empires of the time, which was allied (still is) the UK is neglected but the Indian factions are more important? Denmark is the same despite not having great participation (compared to Portugal). I love the games that are, frankly. But in historical terms what you have left me very disappointed. I will think better before buying a game made for you. Spain, which deserves respect, is always more important than Portugal, which is frustante. Put the north and center of the Americas but the South, very important territory for Portugal, you no longer get. As yet not enough to create jobs market in the Brazilian coast for all countries. Only say that Brazil was missing Spanish territory. You, you know why there are important things completely ignored and gave priority to United Kingdom (see, for example in all the European buildings will very British). If you choose Spain or Portugal (with the help of modders), cities in the battles have nothing to do with Spanish or Portuguese culture. I say this to make reality better. You are good but the game failed. Europa Universalis 3 still gets to be more rewarding. The only thing I did was listen to the voices Portuguese, typically Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese for anything but the Portuguese of Portugal. Never a game has this value it. Please respect the history, do so where that Portugal, and Denmark is also playable, finally meet when they deserve the nations. Discard Portugal? The second largest empire in the century in which the game runs? It was a mistake that we did not understand and that revolt us. You can not include countries in large part because wars. It is not just a joke and loses. Thank you. Good luck in your next project that I hope, like all others, see what LOOL. Have a Good Day. Sorry my bad English ( I use Google Translate lol therefore can not understand some words).

#89, i dont think the light inf. companies should have melee capabilities similar to that of line infantry regiments. this would lead to a light infantry regiment being able to halt the advance of a line inf regiment, which is completely bogus.
Posted by moe6312 on June 22nd, 2009 at 5:13 pm
Wow…hopefully this all helps. Love the “new” units being added. However, I’m sure you have received comments on the French not switching to their right color scheme after the French Revolution takes place.
I purposely created the French Revolution seeking to change my ugly white colors to that of the blue, white, and red scheme. Furthermore…you added new units to other factions, what about the FRENCH?
If the French Revolution should take place…they should be given “new” units as well. Old Gaurd, Middle Guard, and Young Guard units, different uniformed Cuirassiers, different uniformed Line Units, and Grenadiers.
Please….
Thank You,
Jason

Why this faction cant be played in the normal campaing mode , starting in 1700´s has 13 Colonies and when some goal would be achieved unlocked USA with a revolution has happens in many european coutries ?

Just an observation, I’ve seen several people comment that they want to play as the United States in the campaign. You already can, but you have to complete Road to Independence first, and instead of going back to the grand campaign screen, just click the fourth box in the RTI screen the says “United States” and click play. That will put you into the grand campagin as the United States.

Itwas also strange that if you set up a cannon on the battlefield, they sometimes split up from the crew. It was oninpossible to fire them on thwat way. There where so much mistakes!

So I really liked this patch except for one small thing, that’s actually not that small. After updating the 1.3 patch I lost the ability to use the increased game speed function on the battle map. My units move at the exact same speed (walking or running) at 2x or 6x speed as they do at regular game speed. I’ve run several battles and have restarted the game up a number of times to see if this problem would continue and it has. makes for some extra long battles as I got to spend 5-10 minutes real time watching enemy walking ever so slowly toward me. patch was good aside from that.

A few more suggestions,
1. Have AI leave at least one army troop behind when freeing a port of emeny ships, as it is stupid to see once troops leave said port, emeny ship only retakes same port next turn.I’ve seen this happen almost every turn with spain and in india, as I can’t see no country repeatly repairing same port for ten to twenty turns in a row.
2.I find it annoying to see countries with one port in their home countries, only to have a one emeny ship enter their port and they seem to do nothing about it,even though they got the army and navy in which to do it.Yet when that happens to me my money goes down. I’ve watched the some AI ports having this happen for twenty turns or more, but they get stronger.
3. The trade theaters are now useless in the beginning now since patch1.3 as pirates will now attack you in port, therefore a waste of money as the longest any trade ship have lasted unless protected by top of the line warship is three turns at most in the games I’ve played
4. This game is now useless unless your into fighting every battle out,as leaving the computer do it now almost assures defeat,as some of us are not into commanding every battle or want to.

Hi!
I just wonder how you can call it “The Elite Units of the West” Downloadable Content, when you have not added any swedish units? Sweden WAS the largest political and military empire in northern Europe at that time!
I feel that Sweden has NOT been a priority to you when creating the game. I mean, the only swedish unit that differed from the other nations before this uppdate was the “hakkapelita”, which was used from late 1500s to the 30-year wars 1618-1638.
I really hope that you can differ the units of different factions more, like in the previous games. That´s what i think is the charm with this games is.
Other than that, thanks for a very, very good game!

I’ve had two problems since buying the game two days ago:
With 1.2, I could not finish Road to Independence – I tried to declare war on the British (my one remaining opponent) and nothing happened. Objectives screen is blank.
With 1.3 installed, playing a short campaign, I got the “end turn” bug – button grays out but opposing countries never take their turns. Reloading last saved game doesn’t fix it.
Great game marred by very frustrating, progress-destroying bugs that leave you with no choice but to start from scratch, but who wants to, knowing that a possible campaign-ending bug awaits?

Brain, are you perhaps from… Texas?
But no off course that wouldn’t make a good expansion pack.
It should be Napoleon and I think there is little chance it i going to be anything else.
What I think should be changed is the diplomatic system, espacially the technologies, I mean why did they put them in there if no one wants the trade them (at a fair price, fe: 10 tech. in excange for 1 is denied).

I love the game Empire total war – the battles are great fun and a big improvement. I would like many people suggested like to see the game more difficult in single player mode and also be able to play more factions right away!! I gladly paid for the new units and would like to see more of this – diversity is what makes this series fun (I have bought every total war series and expansion). I am not much of a history buff, I used to play a strategy war game that generated random maps for each new game, what a great feature it would be for the total war series – a new game each time without the predertimined winner by history (it let you choose land, islands, continents etc….!! Some people suggested opening up the entire world to expansion – that would be awesome too!!

First of all I’d like to say that I’ve been waiting for this game for years and I just got it last week. I’m having a blast with it so far; it really is an amazing game, thank you all so very much.
But I was wondering, why there aren’t many unique units for Austria? None of the 14 Free Units were Austrian and only one of the DLC units is Austrian. The only special things about Austria are the large Line Infantry units and the Windbuchse Jaegers. Even at that, the Line Infantry stats are reduced and the Jaegers have less men than other Light Infantry units.
These are just ideas, not complaints. If they are already in the works then that’s just great. Thank you all again very much.
Other than that I also want to mention some of the issues I’m experiencing that others have posted about already, just to reiterate.
1. Comment #32, His Issue Number 4; Road to Independence Chapter 2 Glitch that doesn’t allow the next mission to appear.
2. Comment #35, I also get a lot more lag when Native Americans are on the screen.
3. Comment #36, I also have jerky cinematics. I had thought it was just my crappy system but after this I’m not sure.

Acouple more siggestions or questions
1. I don’t mind rebellions but if you ever have to take over the netherlands, I find it a little bit stupid for rebellions to pop up every three turns, and for it to go on for ten or more years no matter what you do no taxes, update all buildings replace ministers,it goes on until it spreads to france, which causes money problems and unrest at home if you’re playing France.Hell I defeated england before and never ever have I found another country which rebells as much as the netherlands. I mean what’s the deal, you don’t want anyone to conquer that country. If every country was like the netherlands, you’ll never be able to lessen your armies in any country you conquer.
2. As far as AI making peace, keep dreaming as I have even offer giving back territories plus money, but no deal. Before you asked I wasn’t in a war of secession with said country.
That another stupid part of this game, a country declares a war of secession on you, but yet never attacks you or comes to the aid of allies which is fighting said war even if it means they get conquer in the process. No nation is going to fight someone elses war if it means there end,as the other allies will hear of it and back out of the war if the allied which started it won’t help defend them when the nations home country is attacked.
3. Why is it that the computer declared a war of secession but yet we can’t make such claim.
By the way it doesn’t matter what country you are when you defeat the netherlands homeland, same thing happens as far as rebellions goes.

Hello,
I’m french, so I don’t speak your langage very well but where is this patch 1.3 for ETW please?
Posted by ezor on June 24th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
Im suprised that we are given 14 new units
thats pretty unique for a patch to add units. Great thanks. But i have to say, more different ships would maybe be awesome and maybe give seabattles a new little dimension.
I will say some things i hope you will look at in a future patch
*Make lighter ships faster and bigger slower, i think its to hard to outmanoeuvre a HFR whit lets say a frigate (at online battles ofc), you are very hardly given a chanse to do raking fire at the HFR.
* Does raking fire do to little damage? I think so?
* more ships damage models, especially in front and the stern
*And the multiplayer campaign, i REALLY look forward to that, please dont leave that.
I can really imagine me and a friend play as France and Brittain, it would really be awesome to fight each other in america
*And please make the online battles more “ATTACK, ATTACK!” In many battles both players just stand still and firing artillery to some side losts all of their art, then they are forced to attack.
————————————————–
* A great thing, maybe not possible is a unofficial mod ore something that takes the 20 unitblocks limit away, it doesnt need to be good looking. But then i play ROME TW now i think about how cool it would be with >40 unit blocks/team and fighting a LAN.
I would very happy if u guys can make a “Take 20 units limmit away” option in just the multiplayer. That cant be to hard, or? No ai who needs to be teach to handle so many unitblocks, no campaign who neds to handle it, juste the multiplayer. That can be very cool in about 6 years in the future then computers are strong enought to handle about 60 blocks/player. It will be a great mess, but thats whats war is
Just a great idea from me
But thanks for the patch and the new units and sorry for my english

Hey guys-
You likely already heard this, but in Road to Independence I was taking fort duchenesque whatever the heck and noted that when I got my forces by the walls of the fort, the french arty on the overlooking bluffs promptly started shooting at their own fort! I never commanded an artillery unit, but I’m pretty sure this would get you strung up in the olden days, french or not.
That gripe out of the way, the polish in the game is really starting to come through- the smoke and fire, even though it was the french doing it to themselves was fun to watch, battle animations and AI are definitely coming along and AI behavior during seiges is beginning to actually make sense based on various situations. Please keep it up and thanks!

having technolegy added later in the game would be nice!(like in mid II total war, when the gun powder discovered)
when you finish all research, you can destroy universitys because they only lead to unrest. i think that academics could be improved, and universitis still be usefull after finishing all research.

Posted by akatzuki on June 25th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
Well I’d say even after the update, you’ve still got issues
First I was taking Fort Niagra, when the French artillery, standing behind their own general no less, stopped shooting at my guys, turned and proceeded to fire on their own fort- now that’s French!
I did notice that there seemed to be some sort of conflict on the game IDing who was who because even though the French were cheerfully firing away at their own fort, I figured I’d overrun them but the system wouldn’t let me attack them ( at first, then later it did)
The French cav general for his part, even though my infantry were closing in on him and commencing to fire, just sort of milled his men around getting shot, then they’d run off, then come back and get shot up some more.
The other gripe I have is I sent my men out of garrison on the big map to intercept what I thought was a fleeing French force to polish them off- ran smack into a reinforcing larger army of French and chose to retreat. Logic would tell you that if I came from a fort and feel the need to retreat, I’m going back to the fort, but the game decided to have my men fall back out of range of the fort and stop somewhere in the countryside. Made no sense whatsoever. Seige behaviour, overall however, is showing marked improvement.
All in all though, the AI still is the huge, broad, flat, wart covered nose on an otherwise reasonably pretty face- get it fixed and I appreciate your continuing work!
Posted by Hayes Murray on June 26th, 2009 at 6:08 am
I really hope the specialization and diversification of certain units will lead to more balanced and fun gameplay. With people learning to specialize and not just generalize their tactics I think this will be a more interesting and EVEN MORE fun game
Thanks and good work!

Posted by Stephen on June 27th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
Where can i comment on intellectual ideas for game improvement? The AI too often leaves units uncommitted while some of its units are being decimated. The AI has become better at trying to flank, though still is weak in that area. The AI needs to focus on using two units to attack one players unit while trying to isolate parts of the players army. Eseentially using Napoleonic isolate and defeat. The programers need to play a little more of their own game.

There is one thing i really wants in the ETW is any Native American faction because i would like to play as one of these to fight back Europeans off the soils of North America, which could be fun. I wish an update of 1.4 version would be happened to mention Native American factions as playable. Also, please let Native Americans to develop naval bases for only to travel oversea wintin North America theatre with large canoes like Carib Indians did.
keep it up! liked the 1.3 version but need more factions like Native American
Many thanks!

Another annoying point when playing single person game. I find it odd that Spain,England and France all of a sudden gets used of New Spain, New Frances or England armies and navies later in game without ever doing what is required of them to used said troops but yet we don’t get same freedom. Many times I’ve had said nations navys almost wipeout when out of the blue they get use of there american territories navies.I don’t mind fighting a war but the sudden infusion of being able to use these forces when you have no control of yours. Also I find it annoying you have to declare war on your emenies american territories although according to the stat sheet which lists allies and foes they are already at war with you, but that happens if you go and attack their navy. With the balancing you’ve done, getting all your objectives done is hard enough if not impossible without AI cheating therefore giving them units which they shouldn’t have.As I refused to used cheat codes, one of the main reasons I don’t play online as I found to many people with unlimited armies and navies and there nations making outragous sums of money as any idiot can cheat and win therefore ruining the fun of the game.

Great patch, it did everything it said it would, but I’ve noticed that the battle speed won’t increase now when the buttons are pressed. A couple of other people wrote this earlier, but I thought I’d echo their comments, I was expecting there’d be more people saying this already. Maybe it hasn’t happened to everyone? Well, it’s a minor problem (I’m glad my game doesn’t crash like so many other people have reported) but I just thought I’d flag it up. Great game by the way, nothing else comes close to Total War, I’ve been a fan of every game since Shogun.

reg. DIPLOMACY and Suicidal AI after 1,3 update
I have noted that regardless of who started a war, or whether it is in a AI run countries best interest or not the “request for peace” is answered by “a thousand times no”. Through history many leaders have overstretched, and been forced to reconsider policy.
If a player have started a war and then realised that it was not a wise move, one would expect that in order to gain a ceasefire/peace there would be a need for offering money and/or region(s) to appeace the AI opponent. In the same manner an AI opponent that goes to war with the players country should be able to recognise that a war was not a strategic brilliant idea. After the update it seem as if all AI led opponents fight to the death regardless. Even a request for peace that does not contain conditions is answered by “a thosend times no”. This do dent the realism of the game. If you are playing i.e Poland-Lithuania it is not a big surprise that your initial ally Russia turns aginst you at some stage. Early in the war, but after it is obvious that Russia have no chance of winning, and while still having their key regions with room for territorial expansion in other directions, it seems very unlikely that they would refuse a peace offer. Then they could regain strength and perhaps attack at a later date instead of heading for immidiate destruction. I have played as different countries after the update to test various scenarios but it seems as all AI leaders now have a death wish.
Some balancing to consider for the next update ?

Just an idea, if there another patch why don’t you let allied ships the freedom to enter allied ports which is being held by emeny fleet, therefore they could free up the port for said allied as many times I’ve had fleets outside allied ports, only to be deny any chance of wiping out emeny fleet cause the game won’t allowed you to enter said port. After all you gave this right to the pirates in the trade theaters and AI seems to have no interest in sending in the allied army to evict said fleet from port which I find somewhat stupid as alot of the time they have a five to ten unit army stack nearby which just sits there and does nothing.Or if they do retake port they leave same turn so same ships can keep on retaking port ,turn and turn again. Thanks for letting me speak my mind.

By turn number 6, the diplomacy list shows me as breaking a treaty and giving me a -46, which pretty much destroys your ablity to make future deals. Tried several different factions, and it shows this dishonor, eventhough I stood by all my treaties.

Re the Revolutionary French uniforms: after the revolution the French regular army retained their white royalist uniforms for many years (even into the early 1800s in a few cases). What would be nice would be, after the revolution, to see new units recruited with the blue uniforms, and the old units retain their white ones until upgraded. I imagine that would be a little too bespoke to be practicable in game terms though. Very much a “nice to have”, but I think there are other, more worthy, causes (playable factions, etc).
Gotta love this game: keep up the great work!
Oh, and I’ll add my vote for an expansion into the Napoleonic era
Oh, and a re-make of Shogun, cos that was great and was what got me into this series in the first place

Definitely blue uniforms for the french republic. Also, after Louis XVIII, the french get a Queen. The Salic law forbade women to inherit the throne in France.

Plz show some love to the naval battles plz,at least make is so you can sail the flagship and put the rest on computer control, also did the native americans really have cannons.?
Posted by Jason on July 1st, 2009 at 1:45 am
I noticed that when a trade allies’ home port becomes garrisoned by an enemy then the trade ally will often (my experience never) not attempt to dislodge them from the port. Also you can not engage the faction garrisoning the port without then declaring war on your trade ally (thus breaking the trade agreement regardless). This essentially prevents you from trading with your trade ally for the remainder of the campaign.
I would understand if I need to protect my trade allies’ home port in order to prevent the enemy of my trade ally from garrisoning the port; however, sometimes the player is not at war with the enemy of his trade ally. Consequently he can not intercept the invading army which will block his trade allies port before it is to late to declare war on them so that you could intercept them.

I have this bug/crash, that sometimes, when selecting an army with a general or a fleet with an admiral, that the game freezes and closes. I haven’t had that issue with regular armies/fleets, i.e. without an admiral/a general. It just really is annoying if you have a large army and you can’t select it.
1: I don’t know whether I can select the army if he dies; I get frustrated and just launch another campaign.
2: Can you guys please look into this? It really is a nasty bug..
P.s.: I also got trouble yesterday embarking my army on Malta, though with repeated trying.. I managed to land them. Perhaps making the landing ground somewhat larger is an idea?

English/British infantry at this period of time was the only trained line infantry to fire 3-4 rounds per minute. Could this efficiency/quality of training be reflected in the stats, perhaps a requirement of a general with a certain command or morale skill/level? Technical maybe but realism none the less.

i ve never seen the AI invading my land from sea. and i ve never seen other faction besides maratha confedarcy and mughal empire in India. when will that be fixed?
Posted by united provinces on July 2nd, 2009 at 3:11 pm
Am I the only one which finds it laughable that the Mughal empire uses heavy cannon units to make harrassing raids on your areas. Come on get real, how many armies back then actually used units of cannons to raid farms and such. what even more stupid is they get there full defensive power when you go to attack them. I mean I can’t imaged a unit of twelve lbs Howitzer attacking a farm, but in the game it is common for the AI to used these units for such raids. Worse yet to fight a army which has more cannon units than soldiers as this is also common in single player mode. What even dumber is to find the Mughal navy more advanced than that of England,Spain or the netherlands. Only when your Gentlemen went to steal techology a few turns earlier they didn’t have it to steal.Stealing techology one thing, but actually using it isn’t as simple as this game makes it to be. It also frustrating also as the game won’t let me duel Mughal Gentlemen therefore making it impossible to stop them from stealing techology, as I’ve try many times. Also I’ve found it almost impossible to steal techology as my guys are run off or kill before being able to finish, which hardly ever happens to the AI gentlemen. Where my supply of gentlemen is limited AI never seems to run out.The more I play this game the dumber it seems, I’m waiting, as any time I expect one of the american indians tribes to start producing second rate ships of the line, I mean why not, if mughal empire can have navies which out class England , spain and the netherlands by 1750 and be equal to mine before I even enter the theater.
That another sore point as they seem able used the techology without developing any of the techology which the game requires me to developed to get there. Almost like they can steal the plans for the gun without ever developing the machining knownelge to build said gun.You started India off as equal in this game when in fact techology wise they were behind the learning curve. What made them so strong was the number of people they could draw on as I find it highly unlikely that by 1750 they would be more advanced techology than almost all of europe. The way you got it, they must used cell phones and called back the stolen techology as it would normally take three to six months for the info to get back to India by ship and then six months to a year to get it working in their homeland at best and that is if not attack by pirates or killed by other spies.Compared to other Total War Games this still ranks at the bottom of the barrel that is if you even put it it same class as the other games and only getting worse the more I play it.At least the AI in the other games wasn’t as stupid as this.

I definetly think that Australia and the pacific islands should be added to the campaign map and perhaps China and Africa too!!!
Also I think that Wales should be made a seperate region to England, I think its a bit unfair that its the only home nation not represented!
And finally I would love to see more historic battles and also when you fight a naval battle close to the coast it would be awesome to have the coastline in the background!

To all the personnel working at CA:
You all have done a wonderful job with this game. There is certainly a lot of room for improvement, but it is easy to understand that the dinamics of XVIII century warfare is very complicated to reproduce in a pc game and you guys have done it. You have captured a much more difficult atmosphere than Rome or Medieval. I am just a fan of your Total War games, one more amongst many but I would like to thank you and encourage you to keep the good work. The AI needs improvement, as some other details do, but I am sure you have what it takes to make it better. The game is fantastic as you are. Keep the good work!

First off,,,good game.
Secondly, how come almost as soon as you border a country, on a whim they declare war on you. They are never prepared for war, and they mostly just send a couple of troops to raid your outlying farms and such.
I’ve also found it impossible to get a peace treaty with any one, even if there has been no battles in twenty turns or any battles at all for that matter(looking at you united provinces).
Couldn’t there be a trigger point that is reached and then the AI country spends the next five turns gearing up for war,ie. recruiting troops, massing armies, before they actually declare war. It is very frustrating to be at war with everyone all the time, with no possibility of peace no matter how much I sweeten the deal. The only option is utter destruction for the AI country.

Will you please fix the annoying problem when passing a Port in which a ememy ship is in. I don’t mind the the game stopping my ship progress to alert me of the ememy, but make it so you can continue your movement if so desire instead of having to personal move your ship through said area therefore ememy can attack if wanted to as most times they are in a ememy port and has no intention of coming out to attack you. I mean have a button on the alert which I can press if I wish to continue on as it would be greatly helpful instead of what you got now which is annoying, as the game got to many annoying aspects to it already.

Posted by UnnOblivious on July 7th, 2009 at 1:01 am
A few bug comments.
First. I had one man of a unit get stuck between trenches and artillery defenses. This grenadier unit was useless the rest of the battle except for melee due to being unable to form up. They kept waiting for the stuck soilder to get into formation before firing. This also is a problem when one guy is slowed by a tree or wall and falls far behind the unit. I’ve had an entire unit form up and wait for one man, probably the equivalent of a few minutes before firing.
Second, my artillery was locked into melee after one horse attacked it and died. It was a bit dissappointing because this was the same battle that the above mentioned grenadier unit could only melee due to the stuck man. Just some humor, but i guess the artillery units use plug bayonets to fight melee and are locked afterwards, hahaha. If i weren’t such a military genius, i would have lost that battle, was outnumbered. Ok, it was actually that the AI is a military idiot.
Third, the AI is too insistent on chasing cavalry down. I can lure one or two units away and destroy them too easily. This is on the hardest. I want to be frustrated and challenged and too often total war is only able to due so by crashing or having some bug really severly limit me. The games like a hot girlfriend, you love them, but you hate them. I don’t know, maybe some of us on here don’t know what thats all about. I haven’t recently, been too busy playing this game!!!! hahaha!

You got a annoying problem now when you go to invade the Island of Malta in a single player mode if you’re England as the game will not allowed your troops to disembark, therefore eliminating you from winning the game in the long campaign game as that is one of the islands you must own. Also this war of seccession you have nation rage is getting out of hand. As I’ve had three different nations, none of them align with the other but all rage that kind of war with me, all within a few turns. What even dumber is except raiding a trade route once in a great while none actually attacks you. heck some of them are not even near you. I don’t mind nations at war with me but this is getting stupid as most of them I’ve done nothing to them. They go from peaceful and indifferent to they’ll never make peace with you. This is the only game I know where a nation declares war but in reality never ever attacks you except maybe a trade route once in a while. I’ve had nations at war with me for sixty years and some of them might have raided a trade route twice in sixty years. There have been wars which lasted a long time in history but at least they did fight one another every so often.
You know the game wouldn’t let you get away with declaring war and never attacking, but yet the game can do this. But then the game is full of nonsense. Like Prussia declaring war on you and attacking you all because you’re a allied of someone, even continuing on long after they have made peace with the one you was allied with and unlike your allied they won’t settle for peace with you.I mean it’s stupid they’re make peace with the nation you were allied with but then refused to make peace with you when you originally had no part in the first war. I might see it if you actually had troops in that war, but just caused you were a allied. To go to that extreme, they’ll be fighting almost everyone which just isn’t logicially as it cost to much. That another point, in the game make it when two countries settle there dispute that the allied nations also settle unless they’re in a seperate war with one another.

Is SEGA planning on creating either a patch or full game covering the Napoleonic Wars and secondly, can something be done to give generals in Empire different appearances? All the generals in every battle I’ve played are identical in facial appearance . Even an earlier game like Rome has variety which adds to the game.

I got a bright idea. Why don’t you try playing the game copying all AI improvements to their countries under the way the game is currently. I mean I love to see you build up spain or any countries AI deems as powerhouses as fast as AI and not be bankrupt. The one game you let AI lets say Spain, while in the other game you’re Spain and must build as AI did in first game. Let me tell you, you’ll find it impossible as I’ve try and many of my friends have and none of us have came near in matching AI ability to build without game threating us going bankrupt in the process as AI seems to be able to make outragous sums of money to support their efforts.I’ve played many of these countries and I know what they start with, that what makes this game look so stupid. I don’t mind an ememy being strong , but getting tired of always downsizing to keep from going Bankrupt only to see AI only get stronger and never ever needing to downsized as money no problem for the AI ememy.Let us know of your results as I bet you won’t be able to keep up.

i was playing the final chapter of the US campaign and in the year 1819 when i hit end turn, the game crashed. I tried to play through that turn several times again afterwards to be sure it wasnt a one time thing, but it seems as though my game has run into a wall. It seems a lot like the crashes people were getting at turns 40-ish when the game initially released. i really hope that this problem is resolved soon because im so close to beating that campgain
thx

Hello I have a problem. I was playing with Austria, and conquered almost the whole Europe, from Moscow to Istanbul, from Naples to Paris and Madrid. When I declared war to Portugal , on the entire screen was white and appeared a message from the error report. It crash. As you know the map is huge because it conquered all of Europe. When game with a nation, and conquered many territories, it crash, the screen is all white and I will stop the Work Environment. Excuse my English.

First of all – GREAT GAME that needs some worke done with the details.
Some ideas:
Plz fix AI – to make peace is a necessity, I took Moscow from the russians and tried to make peace with them (cause needed my troops else where) by offering to return Moscow for a peace treaty and some techs, even tried to return Moscow with cash and only demanding a peace treaty, and AI repetadly said no????
-you should be able to force other nations out of alliances as a diplomatic option.
.
-you should be able to create your own covert pirate fleet (like in Civ)so you can get your very own pirate admiral a la Blackbeard
- you should be able to rename your armies and uppgrade experienced units to special units like lifeguards etc.
- I remember in Rome and other TW games sometimes after an epic battle there was like a marker on the strategy map with some info about the battle… where has this truly golden feature gone??? Does it exist in ETW?
Plus swedes crying for Caroleans: – the whole swedish army can’t be a special force unit since the regular swedish soldier of that time was called Caroleans, yes they had great tactics and training, but still its better like now with designated special units like lifeguards etc…
- you should be able to conquer at least some colonies along the african, asian etc coastline
- generally AI-behavior, diplomacy and trade needs to be developed.
But still great game and keep up the good work, superb game!!!!

Quick question, does anyone have problems with awkward death animations? When a unit gets shot, he does a death animation that makes him jerk back-and-forth like he is being beat up. Just wonderin. thanks

when will the “No response from host” error be fixxed???
i am absolutely certain it has nothing to do with my part cause all other games of mine play as normally as it goes online without lag issues or high pings whatsoever…
but when it comes to ETW… 9/10 games are unjoinable while giving this message “No response from host”
1 more thing, dont know if it helps….
all of my other STEAM powered games also work smoothly and lagless online.
can u please e-mail me a possible solution to my problem?

Whats with the AI? It seems like it only has two tactics. Attack in mass or chase cavalry. The AI chases Cavalry while running in circles around other units never attacking them. Its like cavalry was the pervert that raped their daughter and their out to get them and think of nothing else. WTF!!!!

If you guys are unable to complete something – you should at least admit it. Wheres the Multiplayer Campaign? I bought four copies this game solely for this reason, its been four months since the skipped release date. Maybe you should tell people what your plans for it are, before people like me who are waiting in the dark give up.

Since your patch I’ve found a annoying happen of the AI. It’s seem that it picks the weakest nations to engaged me in wars. Then all nations fighting that nation suddenly lessen or altogether stops attacking said nation, even if that nation fleet capture there port they refused to attack them, even though they might have two of the mightest fleets in the game right next to said port. Heck some nations will even let them stage a rebellion so they have a country to continued fighting me although according to the game they are still at war with them. Like a nation going to let a ememy built a nation in a middle of their area. Granted it can happened but no nation will leave there ememy to gain strength amiss them without attacking, but now the AI allows it to happened.
But then I never seen so many nations willingly fight to the death as in this game, especially as some of these nations were supposed to be smarter than the America Indians, but this game makes most nations that stupid as I guess AI can only have three or four at the most strong nations at a time.

HI!
i am an avid Total war player, from Shogun to Empire and I was wondering if there will ever be patches that would allow rebel states to compete in diplomacy, and have a chance to be a recognized state.
i also have a problem that is recurring with Empire. Every now and then when I get to a certain point in the game (once on the road to indenpendence around the year 1804 and recently on a Prussian campaign at year 1754) where my game just crashes. now I know that I don’t have the most amazing system out there, but it can handle a lot of the stress that Total war puts on it, this seems too consistent to be on my end. Especially that when I start a new game it works fine.
Thanks

Bought the Special Forces game two weeks ago thinking that most of the “kinks” was fixed by now. Im having trouble with graphic card crashes. I have a Gigabyte 8800 GT 512 ram and the game autodetects its settings at high performance but when i run it it crashes about every 10 minutes or so. When i run the game at medium settings it dosent crash as often. I Googled it and this looks like a fairly common problem on this type of graphic card. I am hoping that this will be fixed in a future patch. Thanks for a super game!

Hello,
i have another problem. I have been trying to finish the Road to Independence Campaign and as i got into the 1800 the turns started to take forever to get through. Then, at turn 1806 they stopped moving at all once it reached Prussia…. VERY FRUSTRATING!!! HELP!

i dont mean to be rude or anything (i absolutely love this game) but why is it that 90 % of the players online are complaining about connection issues in multiplayer even after version 1.3 is released?? it really does ruin an otherwise beautiful game. people are playing this game less and less online because of this issue. half the time games being hosted cant be joined due to some ‘no response from host’ error. this is driving me nuts. please creative assembly. we love Total War. fix the multiplayer issues!

Hi, it’s me again. I’m wondering if anyone else gets annoy when playing the game, making aqround ten thousands a turn, then by having a home port blockaded by ememy during their turn, only to have a BANKRUPT pop up when it is your turn. I mean I’ve blockaded many ememy ports but hardly ever do you see the ememy go BANKRUPT, heck most of the time they never unblock their ports when they get blocked. They just continue carrying out attacks. I mean having one port blockaded one turn can caused bankrupty then most AI nations are always bankrupt, but we both know that not true.
Another problem I have AI treats any India army with unrealistic strength as I’ve notice a India infantry unit with no leader can inflict ungodly losses even when fighting a bigger ememy units in AI resolved combat. Also do something about them using cannon units when staging raids as it is unrealistic as AI uses the cannons defensive power when you go to chase them down. Using that strategy, can you imagined if the game had a gattling gun unit with a cannon unit, they could conquer the world as AI damage to your army were be unbearabled. As I doubt that in real life back then they used unit like that as I can just see them using 12lbs howitzer to raid a farm, but in this game it common.
I still like you to devote a web site or page to deal with the economics issues of this game as many of us are in the dark with no end in sight as I love to avoid the bankrupty warning, even after you almost cut your army and navy in half. The rebellion thing is also a problem which like economics you really don’t give us a clue on how to solve it. The one solution I’ve found is not to get to technology advance, but then that somewhat stupid to stop before wealth of nations and that, but I’ve found people then are less likely to clamor for change. Also I like the game to give me the power to grant a country I conquer freedom if I so desire instead of maybe dealing with unrest.

Ok I wanna know if anyone else has this problem too, but ever since the 1.3 patch was installed and the new Elite Units of the West. I could no longer speed up the game play any longer which is annoying when the units walk so slow to get from point A to point B especially with naval battles. Another thing I have noticed is that my general can no long run even if you double click an area he just takes his time, which is a pain when u want to use him to charge or move out of danger. Please let me know how I can fix these problems other than that my game is running just fine. Also I would like to vote for France’s color change after the revolution… seems to me this was advertised as a big part of the game since it’s even shown in the trailer but seeing them in the white uniforms makes it seem like the revolution never happened!

P.S. Thank you for the color change with the Spanish units, I am of Spanish heritage and it was great to see them in their original outfits rather than the bright yellow ones.

There is a glitch in the game . I was playing as the netherlands and was moving troops out of Caracus in South America so to load them on ships when the troops got stuck by the palm tree near the city and couldn’t be move after that. Also a curious thing happen as I was unable to do any research on pump techology until I finally invaded a country with a Iron mine. I wasn’t even allowed to steal such techology until then either, no matter if the country I tried stealing it from had it and was using such techology. Is this something new you’ve added or just another glitch. By the way thanks for easier loading and unloading of troops in port, as it is much appreciative. Why is it you need to used a rake to kill the scholars from the India nations as your gentlemen can’t or game won’t let them kill them as most of the time they’re almost impossible to kill or stop from stealing info.

An Expansion Pack for the game to include a South African Theater would be Great and also historicly accurate, The British and United Provinces had more tha a few fights there and the emerging Voortrekker/Boer/Freestate Boers and Native Africans such as Zulu Sepedi, Koisan est Factions would be GREAT beyond belief. the boers could be a mainly skermishing with sharpshooters. and the Africans could be melee orientated with mrec calvary and stolen/hired guns.

You still got a problem when trying to split a fleet, although you highlighted the ship which you wanted to seperated from the fleet when you go to move it the whole fleet moves with it.
Also try to eliminated some of the movement video when AI is taking its turn, as when your being England it seems to take forever. Like I really care what a gentleman does in a far off theater. At times when playing England I’ve seen AI movement take anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes as I’ve took restroom break, then fix a sandwich only to find AI still taking it’s turn.
You still have a problem with the Untied Providence as they still never try to unblock or free their Port when blocked, therefore rendering them somewhat useless in the AI game. As when I played as them whenever that port was block my finances went to pot, therefore unable to grow and always being alerted of pending bankrupty.

hey, this would be a great game with out all the very numerous problems occurring. The most annoying for me is that i just bought a new graphics card which is a Nvidia gtx 275 that can play the game on highest of settings. The biggest problem for me is that as you scroll away the units became very pixelated and looks horrible. Also, the crashes have to get fixed cause i never can finish a GC.

Hey! I was playing France and it was in the 1730s and at a start of a turn. As normal you get all those messages at the start of each turn to deal with. I got halfway through when it came to a messaged about one of my religious gentlemen when it completely froze up my computer. Game got stuck on message page and refused all other commands, not even allowing me to exit game or nothing else. I doubt your error reporting system reported it as with the computer froze and nothing working,I doubt it work then either.Don’t know if it was the game or steam which cause the froze as I’ve found most of my crashes happened when steam is running as I get less crashes when playing in off-line mode.

great update, well done!
couple of bits I’d like to see;
*an ability to create a constitutional monarchy rather than just a republic.
*What happened to the deaths head hussars for Prussia? they should also have access to Hessian infantry.
*multiplayer campaign pleeeeease
*would be nice to see the historic battle marker re-appear, was such a nice addition
*the AI are ridiculously sketchy and illogical, both in military tactics and diplomacy. If the austrians are being annihilated by both the prussians and the polish, they still won’t agree to a simple peace treaty, ridiculous. and they send entire armies to face you if you invade leaving their capital defenceless and open to attacks from other borders to the same faction.
*South Africa would be an excellent addition, such a perfect theatre where numerous European governments fought for supremacy.
Keep up the good work!

Bring bak mercanaries! And could u make cities such as London Paris or Vienna actualy look like cities nd not just villages with about 10 buildings.
And the ottomans should actulay attack austria like it says in the campaign description. Also France and Britain are supposed to colonise India but they never do.

You are having trouble with Gentlemen getting credit for research when not even in colleges or schools, especially later in the game as I’ve had gentlemen died off or moved them out of colleges or school but the game still acts as though they are there and lets the research continue even though no one is there. My current game,I’m playing France and this is happening at three colleges although I got no Gentlemen even near. This has been going on now for at least twenty turns. It has done this as I played England to in other games but never has lasted like it has in current game. This much be a new glitch as I don’t remembered this problem before,at least not this bad.

I was absolutely thrilled about the potential this game appeared to have, but my moral has been devastated less than 12hrs after buying this game. I’ve been a major fan of the TW series since TW: Med. War (original), but this latest installment has failed to impress. It is a blight and insult to your (CA, Sega, etc.) credentials as a game developer, producer, and distributor. I feel like my wallet and trust w/ your company has been abused, and taken for granted, in exchange for your corporate dollar/investment profit numbers to soar (disregarding the whiplash it may have among your consumer/loyalty base), and I’m strongly compelled to cease investing in your future endeavors unless you properly fix the persistent issues that plague TW: Empire – and fix’em fast (you never should of released this game March 2009; it should have remained in beta!). So, what’s eating Enigma Vex? I have a top of the line custom self built new computer (not currently OCed), which is a fully up-to-date Vista 64-bit system w/ 6Gig of G-Skill Tri-Channel RAM, a GeForce GTX 260 EVGA Over-clocked 216 896MB 448-bit graphics card on the LATEST nVidia drivers, and a i7 920 Quad-core Intel Processor on a Gigbyte EX58-UD4P (latest bios v F8) ….and you know what your TW: Empire game does on it? Crashes persistently, no matter what I do or various in-game / out-of-game (system) settings (ie: run in Windows XP Service Pack 2 compatibility mode) I attempt, it memory errors out during the NAVAL BATTLE TUTORIAL! How can I even feel confident enough to play on a campaign level if the tutorial itself isn’t even stable? I will GLADLY provide you with whatever spec details you’d like from my system, if I thought you were even remotely interested or actually taking the time to read this entire complaint through, but with my entrust with your company already slighted and insulted, I rightly feel my opinions and invested time writing all this out to you will go unnoticed, or even worse, read only to be ignored. However, I’m retaining some hope that my presumptions will somehow miraculously be dismantled. And with that, and this, all said, fix what could be a damn fine great all time remembered and revered game before it’s reputation for bugs/crashes ruin it – and you – potentially permanently.

A fine update!
A few things need tending to. (No rest for Total War)
1. Multiplayer campaign, of course. Smooth out the kinks, and give it a whirl. There will be a few problems, as there always is, so allow user feedback, and patch out whatever needs fixing.
2. Try making the AI slightly more logical, and realistic. Total War games always tend to have this problem, and if it would be fixed, it would make the games that much more successful.
3. Flags and uniforms. The flag of Prussia after the revolution ought to be changed. It is the flag of germany after wwii. Try looking up the flags before that, and change it to be historically accurate. Also, the french uniforms ought to be dark blue coats, with white weskits. Also, remove wings from the Prussian Winged Hussars, as the wings were for ceremonial purposes only.
I’d like to say what a nice job was done on many of the management issues of previous games, such as taxation. Reducing it to a single slider simplified it incredibly, while not taking from the overall genius and depth Total War is known for.
Something to think about on future games:
Full-size, or at least, larger, Campaign maps. At least include South Africa!
Consider adding on to the AI. It definitely needs work. It would be nice to have another country give a counter-proposal to a rejected deal, so that the player could at least have some idea of what they want.
Add just a tiny bit more unit detail. New faces, heights. If a unit goes into battle, takes losses, but survives, mayhaps in the next battle the unit is in, show a few chums with bandaged heads, or the like.
Total War has infinite potential, so just keep up the good work.
P.S. Steam is an alright idea, but DRM, to tell you the truth, sucks. That I can never buy, or sell, a used game because it is connected to my Steam account truly sucks. While it would prevent such likes as burglars, thieves, it limits user options, which is never good.

Please do something with the AI in single player mode.Playing France and cause the stupidity of the AI I had small countries not allied to England or Austria attacked me all caused Austria declared war on me. Although they also had trade agreements with me.Since your fix playing France is Illogically as by 1710 your already at war with as many as seven nations and most of the logic of these nations is that Austria declare war on France although they’re not allied with them and sometimes they trade with both before.
I also noticed how the AI will have your allies attack one another thus forcing you to pick sides, but yet you never see that happen with England,Austria or their allies and when it does you never hardly ever see them fight with their armies as most of the time its their navies and you hardly ever see the two trade partners join in on their war.The idea that a trade partner would join in on someone elses war, even though no trade routes had be affectted is STUPID,especially fight to the death and all this happens before even a first trade route raided or shot fired. NOW HOW ILLOGICALLY IS THAT. I went from ten trading partners to two when Prussia decided to attack Spain.
Like you said before I saved the game and try it both ways and being allied to either way killed my income. If I stayed with Spain, then I’m fighting a three sided war with Spain being of little or no help with the way the AI handles them. If I side with Prussia, then I lose my biggest trading partner and then the AI uses England navy to futher cut my trade and blockade my ports, although they’re supposed to be at war with Spain also. All this happens before I’m even twenty years into the game.
Another thing that bothers me is why at the beginning of the game you can’t make no kind of trade agreements with over half the countries. Or at least make it so your Gentlemen can asked for one when visiting said country. I mean if you can asked for a alliance you ought to be able to asked for a trade agreement.I mean its stupid you can asked for one and not the other unless they agree to a alliance.

There’s a particular Nasty problem that’s occurred more than a three time now …..with every army unit that I own across the campaign map, halving in size after pressing end turn…the real joke is while every unit I own has been halved the Ai units haven’t…
You can imagine my predicament I’m besieging Mysore one minute with a full Army the next turn army halved, Enemy out number 2/1 and sally out…
I wouldn’t mind so much if the game corrected itself in the next turn, However sadly it doesn’t and I’m forced to heal my units on the spot, This reinstates numbers to correct strength in the next couple of turns at a great cost ….
Also loss of sound in battles in North America…
Posted by Admiral Roberts on August 6th, 2009 at 5:08 pm
While my Army the British was occupying my enemies fort in Mysore…the Portuguese fought the Martha confederacy and won control of the region…for the last 10 turns I’ve been unable to move my army from the fort …?!

i love total war games, and always have since i first purchased Rome a few years ago. I dont, however, like the bugs and game crashes, which are innevitable. I do like how with Empire those such crashes can eventually be adressed with each patch, done automatically through Steam. This fascinated me at first, escpecially since i didnt really need the disk to run the game. However, even when i did have the disk, i still needed to “log in” via Steam, such that if there were too many people who also paid full price for the disk attempting to play the game, a wait was required as though it was like a server for an MMO (think World of Warcraft). I had the disk, had no intent on playing online, but still needed to wait for steam to patch me through so that i could play single player. I find this to be foolish and altogether a poor descision for your game, which i love by the way exept for the fact that i need to log in to play it.
i dont want to play online or even have to have i steam account / internet connection to “activate my game” (which i purchased). I have recently purchased a new laptop with the latest gear and was unable to run the game without a crash to the desktop.
for a team of gamemakers who i have long considered to be unrivaled, i am dissapointed. For people who claim to have developed their “most accessable game yet” your quite hypocritical.
If there are patches that need to be installed, i’d much rather download them from your website than battle an unwanted and troublesome program such as steam. I’d love to do away with it, but then i couldnt play the game without the dreaded login and connection to the internet. This can also be regarded as inconsiderate to those who lack decent internet connections.
You make great games, but operate and maitain them poorly. If there is a steam activation involved with any future expansions or content, i can promise you i will not be buying any future Total War games, regardless of their appeal.
please dont let your fans down

Er…how about a senario creator for modders – a simple one to allow us to create scenarios to supplement the 3 (YES JUST THREEEEEEE) that you could be bothered to stick in. Failing this how about a simple battle editor that allows us to create and save battels so that we can share them?
Also (and being British this hurts) make the other factions a bit tougher eh…? Fair’s fair old chap.!!!!

Currently I have only one suggestion:
-Could you possible substitute the spanish pikemen with the spanish Tercios, since this was an emblematic piece of infantry for the Spanish Empire from Philip II reign even into his son Philip III
(Although the Tercios were a combined formation of pikemen and gunpowder units, your previous edition of Medieval Total War had them as pikemen, for this reason I emphatically urge you to reinstitute the unit for its importance in this period).
Besides this you guys are amazing, you guys are definitely taking strategy gaming to the next level, continue the awesome work.

Great Job Guys, I only have one suggestion. Could you possibly include Spanish Tercios next time. Though they are actually considered a formation/regiment, in Medieval Total War they were represented as Pikemen. Therefore could you include an elite pikemen unit that represents one of the most important military features of the Spanish Empire in Empire. Thanks and keep up the awesome work.

I got a question. How do you install the patches? Do they install automatically after you start up ETW the next time? Plz help. Also, I’m getting a new computer, how do I transfer my ETW special edition to that computer? Do I have to disinstall it and reinstall it with the special units again? Will it let me install the special units again? PLZ HELP! TY!

So I’m considering buying this game to stretch the legs on a new rig I just got. I’m a little concerned because of all the bugs. If you had the chance to return it for your money back and you own it now, would you keep it and trust that CA will fix the issues or return the game and get something more polished?
Thanks
Joe

Updates great and love the new units. Also i cant seem to use the “fougasse” feature and will there be a patch which allows you to garrison more than one unit in a building.
I also miss some minor features from rome, for example markers for historic battles, to see men falling off the sides of walls instead of just having 50% of the body over the edge and half on the wall, zooming in on settlements, and when fighing in a river to see the bodies floating down stream cos that was ammusing.
But great game though looking forward to the expansion.

I believe that for the next unpdate or as a downloadable unit you should have the green mountain boys (for the US). It would also be historically acurate to have the Republic of Vermont as a seperate faction. (with the power and influence comparable to bavaria). That would be amazing and I would definetly buy the game then!

I love this game it is great but i would like to see a few more realistic aspects to the game like the mexian and texan revolution. Also if you could make it so some how areas like the wilderness could be colonized by having a fort there for so many turns or something like that. Lastly if you could make all the fractions playible that would be awsome. KEEP UP THE FREAKIN GREAT WORK!, Rylan

Historically British infantry units fought in a two rank formation and had a faster rate of fire than infantry of other countries yet the game does not seem to reflect this. Also infantry units seem to open fire too early only inexperianced/light infantry troops would open fire at maximum range, troops would normally advance to point blank range (whites of thier eyes ) before opening fire with a killing volley. I think as the British relied heavily on the cavalry of the Kings German Legion these should also be represented. I am also having problems with numerous crashes in the Campaign which seem to be for random reasons, apart from this an exellent game

I find now that when units chrage there is no impact the enemy just float back being “Pushed” by the attackers. Also why do all the general look the same and Officers?
Will there be a patch wich allows you to garrison more than one unit in a building? Could we have back the ability to veiw the settlement “on battle map” again like rome. just a few points …

Got my sweden campaign going sweet. Then in the year 1776 Maratha Confederacy declares war. I accept – and BAM straight to the desktop. No way to avoid it.
I have definetely had i it with this still unfinished beta.
Sega and CA you owe me and all other players a huge apology for delivering such a buggy product.
Get your act together

Hi.
You guys have done a terrific job, seriously. But I still miss some elite units from that time.
For example, Charles XII used the Caroleans, they were the swedish elite units at that time. There are three factions that doesn’t have any elite units, Maratha Confederacy, Sweden and the Ottoman Empire. Well, the Ottoman Empire do have an elite unit, but only if you buy “Special Forces Edition” but Sweden doesn’t have any in “SFE” nor in “Elite Units of The West”. It would be great if you could make a spot in the game for the Caroleans. Me and some close friends are a bit disapointed (we are from Sweden) because we feel that the Caroleans took a great piece of the cake at that time. Cheers, Biggest fan, Sovran.

I am new to Empire TW but not to 18th century war. Battle mechanics are very good. Some single player oddities noted:
-Enemy line infantry move along my front, flank fully exposed, without seeming penalty.
-Enemy line infantry form squares in front of my infantry battle line (to pack more units in?) without seeming increased penalty to fire which they most certainly did have. This tactic would have been unheard of unless the unit was surrounded or cavalry was present.
-Light troops and horse artillery seem abundant in the early half of the century which was rarely the case, reaching greater development in the last half.

Hello. I just want to point out that the colours of the spanish republican flag are not red-yellow-red, but red-yellow-purple. It would be great if you can change that. Thank you!!

Hello there
Just wanting to ask if you will be adding some more missions into the campaign, there’s only three just now at the start of the game for France, Spain and Britain and then thats it.
You used to get them in both Rome and Medieval Total War, might add a new level to the game.
Cheers

While appreciate the improvement the update has brought to Empire, I found that another update may be rquired to further fix issues still lingering on in the game. I see a few have already posted complaints about the way diplomacy is being handled in the game and I could not agree more. Their are several solution that CA could look into:
1) Make treaties more durable and not easily broken the next turn (especially ceasefire agreements)
2) Player should be able to broker peace agreements between powers. The amount of times my trade gets to go down the tube because 2 trade partners are at war with each other for over 10 years! The result was that my exports to other states became a cycle of feast and famine, depending if the ports of others were blockaded or not. Player should be able to help broker treaties. Not only does it make sense, but also plays into historical accuracy.
3) (Ties to point 2 above) When player enter war on the side of ally, they should also be able to conclude peace together/en bloc with ally. Wars in the 18th century were all about relative gains and losses, not protracted warfare lasting decades. Hence, entering war on the side of an ally becomes pointless when you can’t get together with them to obtain a ceasefire after a few years of war. This should really be applied to minior nations draging you or other major factions in a war and you are left with a fight dragging on for 20 years.
4) There is a need t for minor adjustment to the tech tree. What I find amazing is that when I’m campaigning in India, native troops march in formation, fire by rank and are as diclipline as their European counterparts. How are the Mughals and Marathas, forces primarily rooted in cavalry able to field armies of well trained musketeers is still beyond me. I excected to find armies like that in the plains of Europe, not the Jungles of India. This is not only historically inaccurate (which is unusual for Total war), but it is making each faction almost idetical to each other and the only thing that seperates them are uniforms. Factions should have their onw attributes which is complemented with its own tech trees.
5) Back to diplomacy: Through my campaign as the UK, I haven’t seen one alliance made between AI factions! This is laughable to say the least. The campaign I was playing was the prestige one where groups of nations should ally against the few strong ones in order to preserve the balance of power so prevalent at the time (again a historical inaccuracy).

Explain to me why this game doesnt work. It meets all of the requirments, i bought it new, and i can play the demo. Why not the full game?

Maybe this is a dumb question but I am a casual player that does not want/try to participate in forums or chat rooms and such but I am forced to now. My question is: Am I missing something? I see all about the features of the updates but I cannot find HOW TO update. My computer says it downloads the latest versions but I DON’T KNOW HOW TO FIND what version I have. I cannot find ANYTHING in the updates area except what they feature. I ask this cause I am finally taking on Sweden after conquering Europe (as the British) and I crash. It’s weird. it only happened when I tried to finally take on the biggest foe.

I love the total war series, but I think it is absolutely criminal that you left out Portugal in empire total war. Portugal was a big player in this era, more so than medieval times. If you have Holland and Spain as playable factions then you have to have Portugal. You seem to forget that the Portuguese colonized south america and controlled most of the trade to india and africa for a good century or so.
Please try to make Portugal a playable faction in a later update cause this is criminal.

Please provide Maratha Confederacy with elite infantry with fire by line and other technologically enhanced chracteristics. Suggest – a new “Maratha Musketeers”
