Mod Tools Update
The recent announcement that the uniform editor was being dropped jumped the gun a bit.
It’s true that we’re not planning to release the tool we originally designed. Some feature designs don’t pan out as imagined, and this one was frankly not great. All it would allow was the setting of colours for a particular unit type. It was clunky and didn’t do what most people actually wanted.
What we are planning to do is to release the full unit editor along with the data builder tool. This is the tool chain we used to create and edit the units in the game. It’s far more powerful than the uniform editor would have been.
There aren’t any areas of the game which in principle we don’t want players to be able to mod, but there are difficulties in practice in making it possible, and we do have some work to do to package up the tools.
We are intending to come up with a more comprehensive long term strategy on encouraging and facilitating mods, and will talk more about this soon, but for now I can say for sure that the Napoleon unit editor tools remain a priority. The tools are currently scheduled for release in the first half of 2011, this is of course dependent on how Shogun 2 progresses, and we will keep you updated.
We haven’t and won’t forget this, hence putting a date to it. For now Shogun 2 remains our top priority.
Thanks,
Mike
Hmmm…. Long over due CA…. Nonetheless, its good to hear that its coming… One of the major reason why I bought Napoleon is because of this. You guys should have spoken about this matter earlier, a lot of customers of yours are already skeptical about your credibility in terms of your promises for the game… I for one stopped reading previews for shogun 2, since often times some advertised features wont hit the shelves…
Nevertheless, I appreciate the honesty… A little late but better than total silence.

I must have missed some stuff. Is this stuff also applicable to Empire Total War?

So Does this mean we will be able to mod the map?
And regarding models will we be able to import/export models?
Will there be limitations in terms of
1.Number of Regions
2.Faction/unit limit

Is their any plan of releasing mod tool for campaign map or campaign map specification on how it works?
That seems to be the biggest issue in modding Empire engine games

I’m eagerly anticipating the Shogun 2 release date. I love what you guys do in terms of employing the historical elements with the excellent game play. I been a fan of all the games since Shogun 1. Total War and Creative Assembly are the pioneers as I haven’t seen anything close in terms of the level of graphics and detail incorporated into the game. Thank you for work on this and I look forward to getting a copy when it is ready.

Hi! This is good news indeed. The debate about modtools for games like empire and napoleon has been goin on forever. I think you guys actually are the ones that wins on releasing mod tools as some players buy these games just to play a mod. Also there’s many mods that has halted in progress bacause of the mod restrictions and the lack of tools, emagine what people could do to this game if they had the right tools, that would also mean some extra cash in your pockets. A win/win situation.
Best regards.

This is great news. I appreciate that this is still coming. I have really been enjoying the other new feature… coop campaign. Its great facing off against friends while fighting an AI opponent and still remaining allies on the strategy map.

i hope you can personally train a unit like a drill sergeant instead of just clicking, but only making it optional.

I really appreciate it when developers allow such access to the game. I am currently using Darthmod, and it allows us to experience the game in a whole new way, extending its life and my interest in the series, and future series.
I also appreciate that time factors limit what you can realistically do, and modding allows the game content to be given the attention it deserves and would not be able to get during a commercial enterprise (game making).
Thank you.
Marcel.

Is there, or will there be, either a mod or a totally new Total War game about “The Great War”? It would be interesting to fight in the trenches and try to either stop the bolsheviks to win the revolution, or at least try to prevent them from expanding to whole Russia.

@Pethom
Napoleon Total War’s mod: The Great War. It’s WWI. They are working hard on making it. It’s really good right now. Waiting for the new models for everything. Then it will be perfect.

@Pethom: Perhaps you’ve heard about the “Great War” mod for Napoleon? It’s on Total War Center on this URL: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=392321
Thanks for bringing the mod tools to reality!! I’ve been waiting for these since they were released! Now, that Napoleon’s going to have mod tools, how ’bout Empire?
