Valkyria Chronicles Event and Interview – Submit your questions!Valkyria Chronicles enthusiasts and fans – and people who like free stuff – listen up! Next Friday, SEGA will be holding an exclusive Valkyria Chronicles event at the Sony Playstation store inside the Metreon in San Francisco! Here’s the scoop: Where: The Sony Metreon, 101 4th Street, San Francisco, CA When: 5 – 9 PM Pacific, Friday, Sept 26th The event is open to the public, and if you’re in or around the San Fran area, you’re invited to stop by! For starters, they’ll be giving away free prizes, including the chance to win:
If you’re like me and haven’t picked up your PS3 for Valkyria yet, this could be a great chance to save yourself some cash, win some one-of-a-kind signed merchandise, and even meet Japanese Valkyria Producer Ryutaro Nonaka. We’ll also be doing an exclusive interview with Nonaka-San at the event, and are opening the door to questions from the community! So, for everyone who can’t attend in person – post your questions here at the blog, and you might spot yours asked to Nonaka-San in the interview! Update: Please make sure to have all questions posted here by 5:00 PM Pacific on Tuesday, September 16th. I’ll be on-hand at the event to cover all the fun, and will be posting up a full transcript of the interview the following week. So, let’s get started: if you could ask Nonaka-San any question about Valkyria, what would it be? Have a great weekend everyone!
Update!: The event had a great turnout, thanks to all those who showed up! The interview is now being translated to English, and once ready, will be posted here in an event follow-up entry, along with some of our many pictures – if you showed up, you might just spot yourself on the SEGA Blog!

I’d ask him when the heck the 360 version is coming (don’t have the money for a PS3)

- Where did the idea behind Valkyria Chronicles come from?
- Cameos of the Skies of Arcadia characters appear in the game, can you talk about this?
- The Canvus engine is one of the coolest art styles I’ve ever seen, The fans very much hope that this will be used in other games in the future, A new Skies of Arcadia with the canvus art style would be fantastic! Shining Force too!
- Will we see a Valkyria Chronicles 2?
- Are you as unhappy with Sega Wests non existant marketing for your awesome game as the fans are? *note not a real question, but its ture… this game could have been hugh if anyone knew about it…*

I apologize if the questions are heavy, since I know its supposed to be a fun and lively promotional event and all.
-How did the initial ideas for Valkyria Chronicles come about from its war-themed story in a European setting, to its distinctive battle system? How much has changed in the final product from the initial visions and concepts of the game, if there are any?
-How much influence from western games if any, does Valkyria Chronicles contain? Are there any other western games that inspired the development process besides Gears of War?
-How much did input from the American and European branches of Sega have effect on the final product?
-A lot of Japanese RPG makers seem to be jumping to develop for the Xbox 360. I’m aware Valkyria Chronicles was originally supposed to be on the 360, so why has it switched to the PS3? Is there any reason behind the decision to make Valkyria Chronicles a PS3 exclusive and not multi-platform?
(The following probably won’t be answered, but worth a shot)
-How much money went into developing Valkyria Chronicles? How successful do you think this game was sales-wise, in Japan? What are your expectations for this title in other regions?
-Are there any plans for a sequel or another game with similar elements as Valkyria Chronicles for the future?
Thanks Ruby and Mr. Nonaka!

-How did the Skies of Arcadia cameos come about?
-Is there any more dlc planned?
-How much more challenging is it to launch an entirely new game compared to an already-established series?

Found the same exact screenshot in 1280×720 resolution by searching for “selvaria” in google images.
Bad thing is that it’s watermarked.

@1 & 3,
360 doesn’t need anymore RPG exclusives. PS3 deserves them too. Stop trying to be so greedy.
Anyway, I’m really excited because I’ve been waiting for Valkyria Chronicles for the longest time. All PS3 owners should buy this so the JRPGs keep coming and support developers who make an awesome game. I’m definitely buying this. Too bad I don’t live in CA, because I’d be there.

-What are you working on now that Valkyria has been released?
-Fans have speculated that Valkyria and Skies of Arcadia’s worlds are connected, is this true and if so, what is the connection between them?
-are any other teams within sega using the CANVAS engine?

@Mana Knight
Yeah, I agree with you. I’m a PS3 owner/RPG enthusiast and don’t have a 360.
The reason why I asked the question was because Valkyria was originally going to be on the 360. It ended up on the PS3 somehow and there wasn’t any reason given.
I was just curious about that, that’s all.

I just want it on the 360 so I can actually buy it. I can’t afford a PS3, and it will be a while untill I can.
And I wasn’t saying I wanted it exclusive to 360 either just getting it on there.

Great questions so far everyone, keep them coming!
Also just a mention that the final date for questions has been pushed to tomorrow evening, so please make sure to get them posted soon, if you have not yet!
Thanks everyone!

Not sure if my questions are any good, but whatever. If these have been asked already, my bad.
1) You’ve mentioned before that the third person shooting part of Valkyria Chronicles was inspired by Gears of War – are there any other games that influenced VC’s gameplay?
2) When developing Valkyria Chronicles, did you manage to include everything you wanted in the game or were there some ideas that just had to be left on the cutting room floor?
3) Characters from Skies of Arcadia have made appearances in Valkyria Chronicles. Is there some secret plan brewing to revive SoA that we aren’t aware about? (the one question on everybody’s mind, me thinks)
4) Who is your favorite character from Valkyria Chronicles and why? Are any of the characters in VC inspired by real people?
And one off topic question that probably won’t be answered:
9/9/09. Should we believe? =D

Q: Who’s your favorite character? And which characters have gotten the best fan response?
Q: What game(s) are you playing now?

lol, one more question, though I suppose this may be a question better answered by people from SoA:
Hitoshi Sakimoto composed the music for this game (and I love him so much for doing so). Any chance of a soundtrack coming out here in the States?

The question deadline has passed, thanks very much to all of you who sent in a list of questions! We’ll be sorting through them and selecting a list to use in the interview – check back here at the blogs next week for the Q and A transcript with Nonaka-San.
I know many of you are too far to attend the event this Friday; for those that do live in the SF area, hope to see you there!
As to your question about the soundtrack, Ragol, I’m also very impressed with it from my time playing Valkyria – we may hear more on your question in the coming months.
